Job Profile
The company is searching for a Manual Lathe Machinist to join its team.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Vocational education (commercial or shop training; technical school)
Work Experience
- 3-5+ years of machining experience, Manual Lathe experience strongly preferred.
- Experience setting up and operating computer and mechanically controlled machine tools such as CNC Machines, grinders, drill presses, hydraulic presses, etc.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Comply with all NOV Health Safety Environmental (HSE), HR, and Quality policies and procedures.
- Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
- Document actions by completing work order routings.
- Facilitate objectives for Safety, Quality, Innovation, and Cost – seek opportunities to provide feedback on process improvements, cost savings, and opportunities to work more efficiently or safely.
- Keen attention to detail.
- Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance.
- Load parts utilizing overhead lifting equipment if needed, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, and deburring.
- 100% inspections to ensure dimensional and surface finish requirements are met for all parts machined.
- Must be familiar with precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, etc.
- Must have a high standard of quality by minimizing scrap rate.
- Required PPE safety eye protection, steel toe boots, and a hard hat at all times.
- Set up and operate Manual Lathe with little assistance.
- The ability to be flexible/adaptable to work on CNC machines/manual machines.
- Validate work instructions before machining to ensure accuracy of operations.
- Work as a team player with others in a demanding fast-paced environment to meet frequently changing production.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to accept feedback and deal calmly and effectively with stressful situations.
- Ability to adapt to change.
- Ability to transition over to CNC eventually)
- Experience with Conversational Programming.
- Good work ethic and flexibility to work overtime when needed.
- Knowledge of mills is a plus.
- Must have own tools.
- Operate a small LP forklift.
- Operate raw stock horizontal band saw.
- Willingness to take on responsibilities and challenges.
