Job Profile

The company is looking for a Manual Machinist who will run manual machines, including conventional open-face lathes, Bridgeport mills, grinders, drill presses, and other shop equipment, to recreate parts made-to-order, replace parts of machinery, or perform cleaning and preventative maintenance on those specialized machines in the shop.

Perform the set-up, adjustments, and operation of manual machinery.

Interface with the design team or other engineers and the customer to make sure all specifications are being met.

  • 3+ years of related experience or training
  • Set up and operate manual lathe and Bridgeport mills (required)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Complete shop orders with the highest quality standard.
  • Continuously improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Ensure daily production data, labor, and quality recording are accurately compiled and reported daily.
  • Ensure equipment is effectively utilized to efficiently accomplish all work.
  • Interpret job specification blueprints and job orders to determine machine adjustment and material requirements; work from drawings and manufacturing routers to produce parts following specifications.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow all safety requirements.
  • Observe machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions.
  • Perform deburring operations on machined parts.
  • Performs complete preventative maintenance of machines.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Run manual machines including conventional open-face lathes, Bridgeport mills, grinders, drill presses, and other shop equipment.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to machine various materials such as steel, aluminum, stainless, and specialty alloys.
  • Ability to perform complex mathematical processes to execute machine settings and corrective actions.
  • Ability to use inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gages, height gages, electronic gages as well as hard go/no go gauging.
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, drawings, or other specifications and work in 10th of thousands.

Credible Qualifications

  • Ability to work on electrical components
  • Experience using Hoists and Cranes
  • Knowledge of PC and ability to use Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, & Outlook) and help others with these tasks
  • Knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) Systems and Programs

Work Environment

  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to cutting fluids, cleaning fluids, and the associated fumes from those fluids.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
