Job Profile
The company is seeking a Manual Machinist B who will set up and operate a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exact tolerances and dimensions.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior machinist experience or 2 years post.
- Secondary/Associate’s Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior machinist experience.
Work Experience
- Experience as a manual machinist on a conventional lathe and CNC machining in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings, and specifications through the use of required machine tools. Inspects piece parts per work instructions and drawing requirements. Sets up and operates machine tools.
- Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine the sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup and arrangement; work with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments; make shop computations; and fit and put together precision parts and determine material, parts, and equipment required.
- Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment.
- Uses, adjusts, cleans, and stores the tools, machinery, and equipment used.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Preferred Skills-
- A trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired.
- Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems.
- Knowledge of industry-applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals, and properties.
- Manual machining experience is preferred.
- The ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees.
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans, or work instructions.
- Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes.
- Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.
