Job Profile
The company is hiring a Manufacturing Controls Engineer who will be responsible for governing adherence of equipment manufacturers’ adherence to Ford’s Electrical, Fluid, and Software specifications, and ensuring connectivity to Ford’s IT Monitor and Quality Collection Systems.
Education Level
- University degree in Electrical or Software Engineering (successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained.
- If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
Work Experience
- Experience in controls engineering, including applied experience in Structured Control Language (SCL) including FC/FB Editing and creation
- Software programming experience – Siemens based preferred
- Direct program experience with assembly and machining control architectures (hardware/software)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Deliver new model program work for various Powertrain programs supporting and working in Windsor, Ontario, with occasional travel to North America building locations. Travel needs may increase during peak program times.
- Drive the controls organization to resolve issues, including feasibility, timing, cost, and workload.
- Ensure the identification and capture of lessons learned along with their application to new programs, as well as the impact on existing strategies and standards.
- Handle program deliveries and responsibilities.
- Implement and apply standard software and hardware control architectures across all programs/plants, following the PTO controls specification.
- Participate in management program reviews and represent the controls organization in commodity discussions.
- Support simultaneous engineering meetings with Tier I suppliers to orchestrate control program reviews with all interested parties.
- Support the assembly and machining controls engineering deliverables for PTO programs, from simultaneous engineering through program launch for all Global PTO sites.
- Work off shift, as the need arises, during peak program install and launch times.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Able to read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic prints and design electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic prints
- Demonstrated skill in cell machining systems and integration of CNC controls, gantries, and auxiliary equipment
- Hands-on knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and fix PLC, CNC, robot, vision and other automation issues
- Knowledge of assembly and machining RFID systems including complexity management, and QOS strategies
- Knowledge of international electrical/safety standards (UL, ISO, IEC, etc.) and familiarity with internal/external safety processes (risk assessments, PSS, coordinated safety, etc.)
- Knowledge of PTME IT standard footprint applications such as FIS, QLSM, QWX, GPTS, QDAS, OBL, PDS, etc.
- Understanding of communication network architectures and field bus protocols
- Validated programming capabilities with Siemens, Schneider, and Bosch PLCs and with CNC/Motion controls systems
Preferred Requirements
- Experience interacting with senior management, process engineering, safety, IT, and plant production teams
- Experience using problem-solving skills within FMEA, DOE, DMAIC, 5D, and 8D processes
- Experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook)
- Familiarity with program delivery elements from the cost study phase to launch
- Leadership skills with the ability to lead in the technical aspects of the role
- Process engineering knowledge including GPDS deliverables and plant operational impact of control designs
- Robust manufacturing background with a heavy emphasis on production-related controls experience
- Self-starter, self-directed with extremely good influential, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
