Job Profile

The company is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer who will develop and improve manufacturing processes by studying products and manufacturing processes.

Provides engineering leadership to manufacturing by supporting process efficiency improvements through the design and deployment of manufacturing assists, automated/semi-automated equipment designs, and deployment of advanced manufacturing technologies.

Education Level

  • BS Degree in Manufacturing/Industrial Technology, Industrial Engineering (highly preferred), but experience in place of education is acceptable.

Certifications

  • LSS Green Belt (a plus)

Work Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a discrete manufacturing process environment.
  • Experience in assembly, CNC machining, sawing, testing, heat treating, annealing, and bending of various metal shapes and materials (SS, aluminum, brass).
  • Lean Manufacturing experience. Solid root cause analysis and critical thinking.
  • AutoCAD/DraftSight and SolidWorks experience and ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing manufacturing processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement optimized procedures to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and lower production costs.
  • As required create CNC programs for benders, robots, and CNC machining centers.
  • Collaborate with the procurement team and suppliers to identify suitable materials and procedures for specific projects by considering cost, availability, and performance requirements.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including work instructions, process flows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency/repeatability in the manufacturing process.
  • Develop and oversee the design and implementation of specialized tooling and fixtures to enhance production capabilities and ensure consistent quality.
  • Utilize the ERP system for all aspects of the position including document control.
  • Work closely with the quality assurance team to establish quality standards, conduct process audits, and implement corrective actions to maintain adherence to quality requirements.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Apply principles of critical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • AutoCAD/DraftSight and SolidWorks experience and ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
  • Contributing member of the MRB team to reduce scrap and rework through root cause analysis problem-solving.
  • Critical to the development and sustainment of the work center labor standards and the analysis of actual labor applied.
  • Drive labor cost savings by improving processes that lead to productivity gains.
  • Ensure all manufacturing processes comply with health and safety regulations and implement safety initiatives to create a safe working environment.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge in the MS Office Suite and specifically in Excel and MS Project.
  • ISO knowledge and exposure.
  • Lead continuous improvement events and projects to develop the overall operational involvement in process methodology improvement.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Plant layout and product flow understanding.
  • Reduction of downtime by providing technical support to the plant floor by troubleshooting manufacturing process equipment.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems beneficial with MS Dynamics 365 a plus.

Work Environment

  • Must have visual acuity for keyboard, operating equipment, and reading information. Close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

  • Use of ladder to reach overhead assembly areas
  • 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires repetitive movement with frequent use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Hand-eye coordination
  • May be exposed to moving mechanical parts, dust, heat, and moderate noise from machinery while on the production floor.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasional visits to areas with high noise levels or other physical hazards will require the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Safety glasses with side shields and steel-toe shoes are required on the production floor.
