Job Profile

The company is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer I who will be responsible for supporting assigned manufacturing processes and suppliers.

Support the transition of new products from design engineering to manufacturing including; mistake-proofing key process characteristics, verifying machine/equipment capability, and validating effectiveness of dies, tooling, and fixtures.

Develop process improvements, provide improvement suggestions to design engineers on jigs, fixtures, dies, and related tooling, troubleshoot machine/product-related issues, and implement lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.

Conduct root cause analysis and drive long-term corrective actions.

Education Level

  • BS Degree in Engineering from a College/University
  • Related experience in job function or training; equivalent Combination of Education and experience.

Work Experience

  • 1-3 years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Experience working on multiple projects and implementing a continuous improvement process

Duties/Responsibilities

  • ‘Hands-on’ participation on the shop floor for problem-solving and developing both corrective actions and proper methodologies to solve problems.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for both fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Develop standardized work instructions, implement 5S, balance lines, create process flow and linkage, participate in Kaizen Events, and remove non-value-added activities from the manufacturing process.
  • Improve tooling/fixtures for fabrication and assembly to remove a non-value-added activity, reduce set-up times, improve quality, and reduce scrap.
  • Responsible for properly handling and managing hazardous waste generated in their work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and mylars.
  • Knowledge of aerospace company specifications and practices
  • Moderate knowledge in problem solving on the factory floor including CNC Machining and other fabrication processes
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Overtime and weekend work as needed to support manufacturing
  • Team-oriented with a continuous improvement outlook

Work Environment

  • Frequently required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Hearing protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas.
  • Minimal travel required.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to frequently move or lift from 1-50 pounds.
  • Noise level is moderate in an office environment and moderate to loud on the shop floor.
  • Regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Safety Footwear shall be under the following- ASTM standard F2413-05 with minimum impact resistance, compression resistance, and metatarsal designation ratings of 75-foot pounds (i.e. ASTM F2413-05 I/75 C/75 Mt/75), which are viewable on the inside tag of footwear.
  • Safety glasses (ANSI Z87 compliant) are required in all manufacturing areas.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus.
  • Working conditions are: 50% office environment, 50% manufacturing environment.
