Job Profile
The company is seeking a Manufacturing Transformation Manager with a strong track record of leading successful automation projects in a manufacturing environment.
Focuses on designing and implementing automated systems to improve productivity, quality, and safety across steel welding, cutting, and bending operations.
Modernize production capabilities, support the efficient, high-quality fabrication of steel hulls, decks, and structural components for marine barges.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
Work Experience
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing automation role, preferably in heavy steel or marine fabrication.
- Experience with marine barge construction or shipbuilding processes.
- Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or Lincoln Electric automation experience (highly desirable)
- Hands-on experience with robotic welding, automated cutting (plasma, laser, oxy-fuel), and steel forming processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and industry standards (OSHA, AWS D1.1, etc.)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and design engineering teams to scope, launch, and sustain automation projects.
- Design, integrate, and troubleshoot robotic systems (Fanuc, Lincoln Electric, etc.) used in steel barge construction.
- Develop and maintain documentation (schematics, SOPs, safety procedures, training guides).
- Evaluate and recommend technology upgrades to align with plant goals for throughput, safety, and quality.
- Lead automation initiatives to improve efficiency in robotic welding, plasma/oxy-fuel cutting, press brake forming, and other fabrication processes.
- Optimize welding parameters and fixture design to ensure structural integrity and reduce rework.
- Train operators and technicians to safely and effectively run automated equipment.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Familiarity with AWS welding codes and structural steel quality requirements.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and simulation tools.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and industrial controls (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.).
- Strong project leadership skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
Work Environment
- Ability to travel – up to 25%
- Comfortable working in a production environment with large-scale steel assemblies.
