The company is hiring a Mechanical Construction Specialist III to join its team.
Education Level
- Vocational training in construction trades such as Pipe Fitting, Boilermaker, Machining, Carpentry, Welding, Electrician, Instrument Technician, and HVAC technician (desired)
Work Experience
- Minimum 10 years in Construction Management or Site Superintendent in heavy, chemical plant, process industry. Interaction with civil, concrete, piping, mechanical, building, electrical, and instrumentation trades (desired)
- Work experience in oil, petrochemical, or chemical operating facilities. Other heavy industry experience, such as power generation, pulp and paper, specialty chemical manufacturing (acceptable)
- Previous experience in operations, process engineering, technology, maintenance, construction, construction management, or HSE.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Able to identify field interferences with associated costs.
- Assists in managing and reviewing the progress of contractors’ construction schedules.
- Assists the project manager in bid walks with contractors in the field for budgetary and firm proposals. Respond to RFIs (requests for information) on time.
- Assists the Project team with project cost/change controls and project budget and accounting records for construction.
- Assists the Project team with schedule updates, construction invoices, and submittals.
- Conducts ‘stand down’ meetings with contractors if a safety violation is found.
- Creates and reviews Requests for Information (RFIs) and Change Orders.
- Demonstrates strong Safety Leadership with construction contractors in the field. Participates in field contractor audits, CSA (construction safety audits), investigations, and toolbox talks.
- Directly involved in day-to-day site activities.
- Oversees project construction, general contractors, and client-direct trades to assure a high level of quality and safety.
- Performs change order estimating and assists the Project Manager in change order negotiations.
- Provides information from field reports to support progress forecasting.
- Provides installation technical support to Project Managers.
- Reads and interprets P&IDs, layouts, and process flow diagrams.
- Reviews the Daily Construction Reports (DCR) submitted by each contractor on site every single day.
- Reviews weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts, including project costs and potential changes.
- Supervises Daily Timesheets from construction contractors.
- Supports construction and documentation to align with project documents and good engineering practices.
- Supports look-ahead schedule planning with construction contractors.
- Supports the project Manager on scope management activities and the estimated level of effort for out-of-scope tasks.
- Verifies that all work is performed in accordance with approved manuals and procedures based on client site CPMP processes.
- Walk down and review jobsite conditions, including customer meetings, as needed.
- Will facilitate the development of change orders by requesting through trades and engineering. CM is not an estimator and will not independently develop change order requests on behalf of trades.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Familiarity with civil and structural systems such as concrete foundations, underground piling, structural steel erection, and building/panel construction.
- Familiarity with electrical and instrumentation systems such as transformers, MCCs, switchgear, conduit, cable, and wire installations.
- Familiarity with piping and mechanical systems, such as isometrics, manual valves, specialty items, packaged skids, chillers, cooling towers, etc.
- Strong understanding of OSHA industrial work practices as related to Health, Safety, and Environmental impacts.

- Coordinates with engineers and contractors
- Exposed to noise, dust, and varying weather
- May work extended hours to meet deadlines
- Wears safety gear and follows site protocols
- Works on industrial or construction project sites
