Job Profile
The company is hiring a Metal Control Operator who will work under general supervision to prepare, cut, shear, and supply alloy charges for the casting operations, as well as, verify incoming alloy to sort or identify using established methods and procedures.
Works independently using personal judgment.
Educational Qualification
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution
Work Experience
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
Duties/Responsibilities
- Cleans up department and work area.
- Comply with all site-required policies and procedures including but not limited to EHS, Quality, Code of Conduct, and the Wichita Falls Employee Handbook.
- Cuts, shears, chamfers, and visually inspect charges for inclusions from bar stock to meet the required weight outlined by Engineering (product criteria) and the standard operating procedures or activity instructions which requires moderate mental and visual effort.
- Ensures incoming alloy stored in Metal Control is properly identified with the proper heat number assigned by Alloy Control with the proper identification on the container.
- Keeps updated on all standard operating procedures, new methods, or improvements.
- Maintains alloy cutting and shearing records.
- Maintains identifying markings and coordinates the storage area to avoid the mixing of alloy and maintain engineering reserves.
- Must be able to function as a member of a team and be able to work under general supervision.
- Must be able to maintain expected quality levels.
- Must be able to read and interpret Product Criteria (PC) and Activity Instructions (AI).
- Store, transfer, and relocate alloy from bins manually or by mechanical means which requires considerable physical effort.
- Stores revert alloy and maintain routine inventory records. Prepares revert alloy for shipment and identifies each container.
- Using Computers (entering information, etc.)
- Verifies incoming alloy quantities and types against alloy delivery sheets. Notifies supervision of any irregularities.
- Welds alloy charges to meet the proper weight and dispense additives such as silicon and manganese.
- Works Overtime when needed.
- Performs other duties as required.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Basic Computer skills
- Knowledge of alloy(s) to determine type and diameter size
Working Environment
- Carry with one hand
- Carrying items with two hands
- Climb stairs and ladders
- Considerable physical effort is required when loading alloy
- Crawl, squat, balance, and sustain bending
- Finger Press and tolerate hand/arm vibration
- Gripping, pinching, and handling
- Lifting and carrying to the waist-to-chest high level, floor-to-waist and chest to overhead
- Moderate lifting >25, <50 lbs.
- Must pass Jaeger 2 vision test annually
- Pushing, pulling, and twisting
- Reach for nearby, far away, and overhead items
- Requires almost constant standing and sufficient strength to lift, handle and transport heavy alloy
