Job Profile
The company is recruiting a Metallurgy Technician who will be responsible for assuring the integrity of Eaton’s products by testing for metallurgical characteristics in all phases of manufacturing.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution
Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of quality or laboratory experience
Duties/Responsibilities
- Analyze and interpret microstructures of plating, coating, weldments, and heat-resistant alloys.
- Complete 5S+ activities, which include but are not limited to your working area.
- Complete regular training, facilitate training, maintain certifications, and perform additional quality-specific functions as necessary.
- Document test findings, generate non-conformance reports, and initiate Fast Response as needed.
- Identify problem areas and recommend corrective actions.
- Interpret and evaluate test results per applicable drawings, specifications, and standards.
- Maintain lab equipment and environment by monitoring performance and calibration of equipment, performing minor repairs as needed, and maintaining supplies.
- Perform basic metallurgical laboratory testing, including hardness, compression/tensile, metallographic, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of metallurgical experience
- 3+ years of inspection or laboratory experience in the Aerospace industry
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to meet the Near Vision and Color Perception requirements of the Eaton Beltsville procedure.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical specifications, GD&T, and use measuring equipment including calipers, measuring scale, pi tape, etc.
- Ability to safely work with/mix acids to etch product.
- Ability to use computer software programs (i.e., Microsoft Office, Omnimet Image Analysis, Bluehill Software, etc.) to build macros, program testing, measure, and report results in a clear, efficient manner
- Ability to work with MFGPro to process parts systematically and WISPER for defective material reports (DMR).
- Basic knowledge of welding and coatings
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, primarily using Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic, statistical measuring, and the use of a scientific calculator
- Knowledge of inspection plans and first article inspection.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, fixtures, and equipment, manufacturing methods, routings, and standards.
Work Environment
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and up to 50 lbs. on any given day, constantly handling parts in and out of the workstation (occasionally reaching overhead).
- Manufacturing environment that requires proper personal protection equipment (PPE).
- Require standing on your feet anywhere from 8-10 hours a day.
- Require focused visual inspection from proximity, without magnification.
