Job Profile
The company is searching for a Mig/Tig Welder who will perform complex and critical welding operations. Various types of metals are used during the production process and the following types of welding are performed: GMAW, GTAW, Sub-arc welding, Plasma-arc cutting, and Air-arc gouging.
Education Level
- Technical Welding Diploma (preferred)
Work Experience
- Previous experience performing Tig Pipe Welding or Pipe Fitting experience (desired)
- Print reading course including welding symbols (desired)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to judge the type and gauge of steel to be welded, and make proper adjustments as required by welding procedures.
- Accurately maintain required documentation.
- Layout, assemble, and weld according to drawings, work instructions, and weld procedures.
- Observe and practice safety procedures and policies, and participate in safety program and department meetings.
- Perform complete welding and finishing operations for unit repair.
- Perform Tig pipe welding and other related manufacturing activities with minimal instruction and supervision
- Position welded metal parts on fixtures; attached jigs and clamps as needed to hold metal parts in proper position for welding.
- Train and instruct other welders.
- Use various handling devices in conjunction with welding tasks.
- Utilize visual examination.
- Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to accurately measure using devices such as tape measures, micrometers, and calipers
- Ability to comprehend complex blueprints and weld symbols
- Experience with air-arc gouging and operation of plasma-cutting machines
- Successful ability to pass company welder certification tests within 4 weeks of start
Work Environment
- Exposure to metal cutting, welding odors, welding flash, and incidental acceptable limits of x-ray radiation.
- Frequent lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs. and occasionally heavier (50-60 lbs.) with assistance
- Frequent pushing, pulling, and handling of materials as well as repetitive hand movements during welding.
- Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and occasional crawling.
- Possible exposure to chemical odors and temperature extremes.
