Job Profile
The company is searching for a Nonmetallic Materials Engineer who will focus on developing into the global subject matter expert for nonmetallic materials for the company as regards to nonmetallic materials application in industrial processes.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree with up to 10 years of experience
- Ph.D. with up to 5 years of experience, outside of school doing failure analysis or materials selection in the chemical process industries or energy industry
Work Experience
- Experience executing materials performance testing or research projects
- Experience with CO2 capture and sequestration, or hydrogen production
- Experience with cryogenic materials performance and testing
- Experience with industrial application of commercially available nonmetallic and adherence to industry standards
- Experience with welding of plastics and related industry standards
Duties/Responsibilities
- Identifying gaps in materials performance and addressing them through internal or external research
- Nonmetallic materials selection support for new plants and retrofits
- Plant support on materials compatibility, repair or replacement decisions, and inspections
- Working closely with the company nonmetallic materials lead for knowledge transfer and documentation through the creation of company standards (application of commercially available materials, not new materials development)
- Working with external organizations such as AMPP (NACE), API, MTI, CGA, SPE, or ASTM to provide input on industry standards and keep up with industry developments and trends
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- 10% travel, including plant visits, conference travel, or supplier visits
- Failure analysis – lab work and communication of results to stakeholders
