Work Experience

  • Previous welding experience
  • Automatic Welding Machine experience (preferred)
  • Ability to use GTAW, MIG, or FCAW to perform assigned work as required

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Clean, prep, and repair parts as needed for production.
  • Hitches workpieces, and positions with the aid of an overhead crane, on positioner, roller stand, or horses as required.
  • Inspect and perform preventative maintenance on welding fixtures, tooling, and robotic peripheral equipment.
  • Installs proper diameter wire on a reel; refills compound hopper as needed.
  • Lays out work on set-up table, applying shop mathematics and using appropriate measuring and marking tools as required; may use templates or fixtures; occasionally improvises fixture for the job. When required, use a fork truck to facilitate setup duties. Assembles pieces according to layout, tack welds together, and welds areas that become inaccessible during setup, using arc welding equipment; trims pieces with gas or air arc torch when necessary to obtain accurate fit; burns out holes in weldment when required; heats areas as required with gas torch to fit or straighten piece or weldment.
  • Places flux retainer, and run-off tabs either by the magnet, or by welding to the workpiece as necessary; welds stringer beads as needed; removes any scale; positions welding head, and proceeds with automatic welding.
  • Receives work assignments; setup, and welding specifications. Secures and examines drawings to determine layout, plan sequence of operations, and visualize completed weldment; determines shrinkage and distortion allowance and plans sub-units when required. Initiates, through supervision, the correction of errors by Engineering or Processing.
  • Repositions head for any succeeding passes as needed; picks up excess flux with vacuum head and chips weld with air chisel; checks weld for appearance, size, and quality; removes flux retainer; burns off run-off tabs with gas or carbon arc torch.
  • Set up and operate an automatic welding machine to weld seams which are adaptable to automatic, submerged arc welding on this facility. Lays out work, assembles and tack welds pieces and sections to form weldment. Load/unload and operate the stress relief oven. Load/unload and operate table blaster equipment.
  • Sets current, carriage speed, and voltage control; mounts proper contact jaws; installs fiber nozzle, and checks distance of weld wire protruding from the nozzle.
  • Sets up roller stands, v-block; horses, or adjusts welding positioner for a particular job as required.
  • Stamps order and drawing number on weldment.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality-always.
  • Available for work approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and be flexible.
  • May be asked to work weekends. Ability to work weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to communicate well within a team structure.
  • Team oriented.
