Job Profile
The company is looking for an Optical Technician who will primarily focus on manufacturing orders but will also work closely with engineering and will have a direct say in process development and continuous improvement decisions.
Education Level

Work Experience
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment (preferred)
- Experience working with optical components (a plus)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to read, follow, and understand procedures
- Actively participate in establishing and improving manufacturing process procedures
- Cleaning and visual inspection of optical components.
- Cleaning, handling, and assembly of optical and optoelectronic components
- Documentation and procedure development of manufacturing processes.
- Follows all safety training and guidelines
- High-precision optics metrology (interferometry, optical part characterization)
- Inventory management of consumables for clean room, manufacturing, and chemical supplies.
- Optical contacting
- Procedure enforcement, maintenance, and cleaning of fabrication and clean room areas.
- Proper handling and packaging of critical and fragile optical components.
- Transacts production work orders through ERP
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor or his/her designate
Fabrication Roles-
- CNC fabrication equipment operation and maintenance
- Machining (grinding, lapping, and polishing) of glass/silicon/ceramic materials on automated and manual equipment
Inspection Roles-
- Cleans and inspects glass and crystal parts and assemblies
- Cleans parts before and following deposition of coatings or during other manufacturing steps using both hand cleaning and spin cleaning
- Inspects parts and measure defect sizes against MIL specifications
- Loads and unloads complex parts into fixturing
- Package parts for shipment to the customer
Coating Roles-
- Calculates various parameters for coating runs from previously recorded data
- Cleans and maintains coating equipment
- Loading and unloading of coating equipment
- Operates vacuum coating equipment to produce optical thin films
- Performs spectrophotometer scan and analysis
- Troubleshoots vacuum systems
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks requiring exacting and continuous mental and visual concentration in a consistent manner
- Desire to learn new skills
- Familiarity with clean rooms and ESD safe environment constraints is a plus
- Familiarity with microscope inspection techniques is a plus
- Proficient with basic computer use (Word, Excel) and communication tools (e-mail)
- Strong work ethic
- Team player with solid communication skills
