Job Profile
The company is searching for an Orbital Tube Weld Technician who will perform welding processes on aluminum, steel, and alloy parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys and precision blending using hand tools to prepare metallic surfaces for welding and non-destructive evaluation.
Determines layouts and welds parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
Monitors and verifies quality following statistical processes or other control procedures.
Joins metal parts to form a permanent bond.
Welds metal components and parts using standard specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches and may also apply friction stir welding (FSW) methods using solid-state joining.
Uses electrical currents or friction to build heat and bond metals.
Observe tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
Set up and operate large, motion-controlled machines to build friction stir welds on launch vehicles.
Perform periodic maintenance on machines with sophisticated pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
Accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches.
Education Level

Work Experience
- 3+ years of orbital welding experience
- 5+ years of confirmed experience in aerospace or related fields
- Experience with AWS D17.1 and or similar fusion welding or orbital tube welding specifications.
- Experience with various thin wall alloys (316 SS, Inco 625, CRES 21-6-9, Monel, Titanium)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Ability to visually inspect welds and verify quality utilizing borescopes and other inspection methods.
- Be able to hand fit and tack weld parts together with TIG welding as required.
- Cut and prepare all tubing and fittings used in welding operation.
- Develop weld schedules for various systems and components.
- Fabricate and install hydraulic, pneumatic, and propellant tubing.
- Maintain a clean work environment.
- Plan and communicate assembly steps for sophisticated mechanical installations.
- Review, edit, and follow work instructions for assembly tasks.
- Safely work with hazardous systems, containing chemicals or high-pressure
- Set up, operate, and maintain orbital tube welding equipment.
- Work with design engineers to help recommend tooling designs needed to fixture parts for welding.
- Work with engineers to review design concepts, provide feedback for ease of assembly, and support development tests.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and supply a culture of inclusion.
- Ability to read and understand aerospace 2D/3D drawings.
- Ability to use standard mechanical tools, and fabrication shop equipment (band saw, chop saw, grinders, drills, etc.)
- Capable of using precision tools to accurately measure tight tolerances (calipers, height gauge, scales, etc.)
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to use 3D CAD tools (CREO is helpful), and ability to read and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard.
- Certification from an orbital weld training program
- Clean room experience
- Confirmed understanding of a variety of tube/fluid applications including GN2, GHe, hydraulics, and cryogenics
- Experience cleaning tube systems to aerospace or medical standards
- Experience measuring and inspecting tube assemblies using a vector measuring machine.
- Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts around flight-critical hardware.
- Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safety
- Knowledge of drawing review, scheduling systems, work order systems, inventory, and various issue-tracking systems
- Tube bending experience.
