Education Level

Work Experience

  • 3 years of pipe fitting experience including installation, modifications, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Journeyman Pipefitter
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • US Citizenship, able to obtain and maintain US DOE “Q” level security clearance

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Certifies, fabricates, assembles, installs, alters, maintains, and dismantles all piping and plumbing, including hangers and supports, and pipe cutting, bending, and welding activities necessary to the performance of the task.
  • Certifies, installs, adjusts and maintains such items as gages, regulators, temperature control devices, recording instruments, and flow meters pursuant to the task (excluding calibration).
  • Installs and dismantles unit heaters and coolers, shell-type heat exchangers, tanks, and package boilers.
  • Installs filters, seals, and packing on air, refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning equipment except compressors in the shop for rebuild.
  • Installs insulation and covering on all piping and equipment as described above.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs necessary piping on refrigeration, heating, and air conditioning equipment.
  • May have completed a Pipefitter apprenticeship or possess related experience.
  • May lubricate equipment when necessary in the performance of related tasks.
  • May perform cleaning of roof cooling towers pursuant to the task. Works from prints, sketches, specifications, and written or oral instructions and does paperwork pursuant to the task.
  • May transport tools, materials, and equipment to and from the job site which are to be used by employees in the Pipefitter job classification.
  • Performs related tasks as necessary in the completion of the employee’s primary work assignment in the Pipefitter job classification.
  • Responsible for complying with applicable provisions of Article 19. Health, Safety, and Environment of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Uses all tools and equipment pursuant to the task, including hand or power equipment to hoist and move personnel and materials except mobile cranes.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to work any shift
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Experience with Machining equipment: laser alignment experience, PLC/computer control systems maintenance and troubleshooting Cryovac, high vacuum leak detection and troubleshooting

Credible Qualifications

  • Applicable technical or trades school training
  • Experience working with Nitrogen, Compressed Air, Argon, Carbon Dioxide, High Pressure Water, and Hydraulic systems.
  • Experience insulating pipes and testing pressure relief devices.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in refrigeration systems, vacuum systems, and machine tools.
