Job Profile

The company is looking to hire a Pipefitter Helper who will assist the pipefitter or perform duties in absence of a pipefitter related to laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems and supports, fixtures, and equipment for industrial piping systems; this includes carbon steel, stainless steel, chrome, and PVC systems and miscellaneous clean-up activities.

Educational Qualification

  • No education level is mentioned, yet having a High School Diploma will be a plus

Work Experience

  • Possess 1 to 4 years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)

Duties/Responsibilities

(Functional Requirements)

Class A-

  • Read and interpret isometric drawings.
  • Cut gaskets with a gasket cutter.
  • Fabricate butt weld pipe from isometrics.
  • Fabricate for socket weld pipe from isometrics.
  • Fabricate PVC pipe from isometrics.
  • Fabricate threaded pipe from isometrics.
  • Give crane and heavy equipment hand signals.
  • Identify and discriminate between cutting and welding gases.
  • Identify and sort valves by size, type, and materials.
  • Identify gasket materials by size, material, type, and ratings.
  • Identify hanger components by type, kind, size, and material composition.
  • Identify pipe by size, type, and wall thickness.
  • Install cast iron push joint pipe.
  • Install ductile iron mechanical joint pipe.
  • Install fabricated pipe butt weld, socket weld, and screw pipe from orthographies.
  • Install reinforced concrete pipe.
  • Install steam traps.
  • Perform craft math.
  • Perform simple rigging operations.
  • Prepare material and pipe takeoffs for butt weld, socket weld, and threaded pipe.
  • Read and interpret hanger and support drawings.
  • Set up and purge stainless steel pipe.
  • Transfer benchmarks and layout elevations.
  • Use power actuated anchor gun/red hand.

Class A/B-

  • Identify all thread rods by size and left or right-hand threads.
  • Identify pipe fittings by size, type, material, and service type.
  • Identify PVC pipes and fittings.
  • Identify rigging equipment.
  • Perform basic math: add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Read basic pipe blueprints.
  • Set up and operate oxy-acetylene torch for heating and cutting

Class A/B/C-

  • Thread pipe.
  • Use power tools, drill motors, end, and angle grinders, and port-a-bands.
  • Identify and sort nuts, bolts, and screws by size and material.
  • Identify threaded pipe fittings.
  • Perform flange make-up (torque).
  • Identify socket weld fittings.
  • Make measurements to the 1/32” using a measuring tape.

  • Perform quality work as determined by project specifications.
  • Practice safety rules.
  • Report to and assist immediate supervisor.
  • Safe use of hand and power tools.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individuals or others in the workplace.
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.).
  • New Hire Orientation Quiz
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.).
  • Written pre-employment qualification test.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tools or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director.
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
  • Must be clean-shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
