Job Profile

The company is seeking a Pipefitter I who will assemble, layout, install, and maintain pipe systems on steam, fluid, or gas systems.

May work in all parts of the construction or maintenance site including in buildings, outside, and inside structures, i.e., tanks or boilers.

Education Level

Work Experience

  • 4+ years of working as an Industrial Pipe Fitter or Pipe Fitter Helper.
  • Must be able to read prints and illustrate thorough knowledge of pipe fitting procedures and skills.
  • Must have good leadership and communication skills.
  • Must have experience on an industrial construction project.
  • Former Zachry Employee (preferred)

License/Certification

  • NCCER Certification as an Industrial Pipe Fitter

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Hoist loads using slings, chains, shackles, hooks, cables, and other rigging equipment.
  • Identify all tools required for tasks.
  • Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
  • Install valves, hangars, supports, and flanges inside the piping system according to plans and applicable specifications.
  • Perform a test to ensure the quality of the pipe and the piping systems.
  • Prepare, fabricate, install, and fit pipe to specifications.
  • Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Leadership Abilities-

  • Ability to take the lead in the erection of steel, fabrication, grid layout, rigging, etc.
  • Ability to perform all job duties of craft trade.

Drawings-

  • Ability to read, understand IFC drawings.
  • Ability to make a hang list, read details off drawings, read all notes on drawings before erection, locate and understand ECNs and holds on drawings.
  • Understand when to stop production work and when an RFI needs to be initiated.
  • Read and understand craft specs and cut sheets, craft spec procedures, and recommendations
  • Able to locate piece marks for correct views and know how to pick out different elevations
  • Being able to know the correct installation based on the orientation.
  • Knowledge of symbols based on legend

Rigging-

  • Knowledge of all types of safe rigging practices (chokers, slings, etc.)
  • Ability to dictate correct knots based on the material

Connection-

  • Know all aspects of connecting
  • Correct procedures for Bolting
  • Torque vs Tension

Fabrication-

  • Ability to read cut sheets
  • Lay out from drawing
  • Cut material from the layout and cut sheets

Torque vs. Tension-

  • Knowledge of Torque and Values
  • Knowledge of Tension
  • Turn of the nut method
  • Different types of indicators
  • Understand how to use a skidmore

Plan Work and Execute-

  • Ability to take drawings, required material, line out helpers, and execute work

Tools and knowledge-

  • Knowledge of specialty tools (torque wrench, skidmore, torque guns, mag drills, hogan drills)

Welding and Cutting-

  • Basic knowledge of welding (machine set up, Mig, stick, gas, etc.)
  • Knowledge of cutting torch, setup, dangers, usage, cleaning, types of tips, and when to use the different types of tips

Equipment Knowledge-

  • Knowledge of JLG’s man baskets, cranes
  • Basic maintenance (inspections)
  • Safe operations practices

Math Skills-

  • Footage, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions to perform all craft duties.

Other Skills-

  • Ability to work independently – minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with others – team player.
  • Commitment to Zachry values and safety rules, and regulations.
  • Good aptitude and manual dexterity.
  • Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Good problem-solving abilities.
