Job Profile

The company is seeking a Pipeline Welder to join its team for Gas Pipeline needs.

Educational Qualification

Applicants should have an Associate’s Degree in engineering technology or related technical field from a university/college or equivalent work experience.

Typically, three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate’s degree.

Work Experience

  • Possess 5 or more years of welding experience in the pipeline industry
  • Must have welding certification to meet the current engineering standard requirements for 1104 welding on the Northern Natural Gas pipeline and facilities.
  • Experience with routine operation and maintenance activities and pipeline and plant welding repairs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Essential Functions-

  • Take a leadership position in performing certified pipeline welding, maintenance, and repairs on complex plant and pipeline facilities; help train and develop entry-level welders.

Typical Duties-

  • Ability to act independently or as a small crew leader to complete welding services related to maintenance and construction of pipeline and plant facilities. Take a leadership role in the absence of a supervisor and construction crew leader to ensure assigned projects are properly staffed and executed. (10-15%)
  • Conduct welding proficiency tests to contract welders. (1%)
  • Ensure proper maintenance of assigned equipment, and welding processes and makes recommendations as necessary. (1-5%)
  • Perform American Petroleum Institute 1104 and American Society of Mechanical Engineers code welding activities on pipelines, American Society of Mechanical Engineers vessels, associated fittings, and plant equipment per Northern Natural Gas procedures which requires the use of specialized tools and equipment. (55%)
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (15-20%)
  • Perform skilled manual duties involved in maintenance, repair, and miscellaneous construction of pipeline and plant facilities and equipment. (15-20%)
  • Prepare and maintains proper records and reports. (3-5%)

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Ability to work in remote locations, sometimes working alone. Subject to hazardous conditions including high-pressure natural gas, welding on loaded lines, adverse weather conditions and temperatures, heights, heaving lifting, and cramped working quarters.
  • Advanced knowledge of company operating procedures, Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency procedures, engineering standards, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, safety practices, and routine administrative duties, as well as state and federal protocol.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a positive team member dedicated to team objectives and consistently demonstrate a sense of urgency and responsibility.
  • Must be familiar with precision measuring instruments and be able to read x-rays and construction drawings.
  • Must be willing to work away from home on occasion for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing to work overtime including holidays, weekends, and extended days.

Other Requirements

  • A Commercial Driver’s License is required within two weeks from the date of hire.
