Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Plant Maintenance Mechanic who will be responsible for the safe repair, and maintenance of mining equipment typically found in an aggregate facility including, but not limited to cone crushers, jaw crushers, screen decks, material screws, conveyors, pumps, dust collectors, bins, and hoppers.

Be responsible for performing diagnostics and repairs on the mechanical systems of the plant’s machines and equipment, including but not limited to hydraulic, pneumatic, and chemical piping systems.

Required to inspect equipment and diagnose malfunctions through preventive maintenance plans, analyze equipment failures, and assist in determining root causes.

Expected to complete pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections, submit required daily documentation, and assist in plant operations as needed.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Technical training in an accredited technical school or equivalent, with certification in one or more of the following: industrial rigging, industrial maintenance, welding, pipefitting, machining, lubrication, and condition-based monitoring, is a plus.

Work Experience

  • Possess work-related experience (a plus)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accurately keep maintenance records of critical and quality-related plant equipment
  • Acquire new mechanical, pneumatics, and hydraulics knowledge as appropriate
  • Address any housekeeping issues within the work area
  • Demonstrate safe work habits and proper care for tools and equipment
  • Determine the root cause of failure and correct condition to prevent reoccurrence
  • Develop, document, and perform preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to maximize equipment reliability; generate out-of-tolerance reports, when required, for equipment found outside of acceptance criteria
  • Execution of motor and plant lubrication tasks; ensure that grease quantity and intervals are maintained within appropriate guidelines; maintain procedures for critical and quality-related plant equipment
  • Perform precision maintenance tasks such as alignment checks, measurement of mechanical clearances, and balancing of rotating equipment
  • Perform safety/mechanical inspections of the plant and equipment
  • Proper use of company provided or own tools to complete repair and maintenance tasks
  • Repair failure using current procedures and recommend alternative methods of repair
  • Troubleshoot mechanical machine failures by disassembly and inspection of components
  • Understand all CalPortland policies and procedures
  • Utilize technical documentation (prints, manuals, specifications, etc.) to aid in troubleshooting
  • Perform other duties as required

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and repairs of common mechanical systems found in an industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Previous experience with one or more of the following: conveyors (screw, drag, belt), centrifugal pumps, crushers, screens, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and material handling systems (preferred)

Other Qualifications-

  • Ability to read and understand labels, blueprints, schematics, job site maps/directions, instruction manuals, or written instructions accurately
  • Ability to use various hand tools and equipment as necessary
  • Ability to work outdoors in potentially loud environments, and inclement weather, for shifts up to 12 hours in length
  • Able to develop and apply mechanical/problem-solving skills
  • Able to use welder and cutting torches to repair and maintain plant equipment
  • Familiarity with mine site safety rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of various aggregate plant equipment including hoppers, feeders, conveyors, screens, crushers, and track-mounted screens and crushers
  • Mining experience or related skills including welding, fabricating, belt splicing, or familiarity working around crushers, screens, sand screws, etc.
  • Must be able to move about in the processing areas do the following: lift and carry 50 pounds,100 pounds occasionally, stand and walk for sustained periods; climb stairs and ladders; bend; reach; push; pull
  • Proper use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) always
  • Read, write, and speak in English and work in a team environment
  • Reliable transportation and punctuality are a must
  • Understand and comply with MSHA rules and regulations
