Job Profile
The company is hiring a Principal Welding Engineer with technical expertise in Welding Engineering to support all phases of design and manufacturing for a multitude of programs.
Education Level
- BSc in Welding Engineering, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
- An Advanced Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Work Experience
- Experience in welding and brazing procedure development or testing, welder or welding operator/brazer and brazing operator training and certifications, welding, brazing fabrication problem solving, and weld/braze inspection.
- Experience using AWS QC-1, IIW Certification, or equivalent
Duties/Responsibilities
- Design for manufacturability reviews, process selection and definition, supplier assessment and recommendation, failure analysis, weld and braze inspection, welding and brazing procedure development, training of welders/brazers and weld/braze inspectors, supplier weld and braze process development, and administration of the weld/braze certification program.
- Developing, working with, and approving welding and brazing processes for in-house (make) capabilities as well as at Supplier (buy) partners. This position would require monthly travel to international locations.
- Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and other technical material and then translating them into practical procedural instructions.
- Supporting manufacturing operations by performing technical assessments, implementing process and design refinements, and monitoring and improving the quality of welded and brazed products.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- AWS QC-1 Certified Welding Inspector
- Desire and ability to work as a team member are essential.
- Experience as a technical liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality organizations
- Experience with aluminum, structural steel, stainless steel, titanium, and nickel alloys used in welding and brazing fabrications.
- Knowledge of the Design of Experiments, Six Sigma, and statistical techniques.
- Must be adaptable and willing to work in all project phases from concept and design through manufacturing.
- Non-destructive Testing certifications
- Testing laboratory skills including sectioning, metallography, fracture analysis, hardness testing, etc.
- Working knowledge of European (ISO) Welding Specifications
- Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Welding Specifications
Other Requirements
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
