Education Level

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, HVACR Technology, or related discipline (required) – College/University

Work Experience

  • 2-7 years of experience in design or manufacturing of durable goods, commercial/industrial equipment, or other related products

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Apply design for manufacturing principles to reduce labor and overhead costs.
  • Assist procurement with source change initiatives to lower costs without sacrificing quality and supply chain resiliency.
  • Collaborate with a team of designers to conceptualize the component and sub-system to meet performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturing requirements. Deliverables include robust solid models, tolerance analysis, and drawings with GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing).
  • Create and maintain component and sub-system engineering specifications to meet performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Help identify opportunities that simplify the components and sub-systems used on the chiller product portfolio.
  • Maintain component and sub-system design through the product life cycle.
  • Present material and engage in technical reviews and project gate reviews.
  • Proficiently solve problems pertaining to the design of chiller components and sub-systems using analytical calculations and empirical methods
  • Review test data obtained from the Trane Chiller Engineering Laboratories to perform mechanical or thermal analysis to validate components and sub-system designs.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to apply heat transfer and fluid flow concepts for real-world problem-solving.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and orally.
  • Design or application experience with building HVAC products: Thermodynamic computations, pressure vessel design, or the applications of HVAC components (compressors, fans, motors, condenser coils)
  • Experience with data manipulation in Excel or Tableau
  • Knowledge of CAD; experience with Creo is a plus.
  • Knowledge of one or more manufacturing processes (for example: sheet metal fabrication, brazing, welding, fastening/joining general assembly, etc.)
  • Travel domestically 5-10% of the time to interact with colleagues working on the chiller products, typically between Pueblo, CO, and La Crosse, WI
