Job Profile
The company is hiring a Production Supervisor who will supervise personnel in the Production Department and ensure compliance with all safety, quality, technical, and housekeeping standards.
Direct and coordinate all production efforts and scheduling assigned.
Identify problems in the production flow and ensure that the necessary labor, material, or support is applied to relieve the issue.
Resolve technical questions and issues associated with production responsibilities.
Interface with customers to ensure satisfaction.
Education Level
- A.S. Mechanical Degree or Foreman, Naval or Commercial Shipyard with an extensive Apprenticeship Program
- High School/GED with Apprenticeship Diploma and additional mechanical vocational courses;
- High School/GED with extensive military training and experience in mechanical or electrical systems.
Work Experience
- 10 years of experience may substitute for the A.S. degree.
- Management/Supervisory experience in submarine operation/repair.
- Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience with installations, repair, and maintenance of submarine hull, mechanical, electrical, electronic, ordnance, torpedo room, VLS, submarine mast/antenna, periscope, or other sensor systems.
- 4 years of specialized experience in performing SUBSAFE/Level I material work.
- Technical knowledge and experience with submarine or surface combat weapons systems, launcher systems, or other similar Naval or military systems.
License/Certification
- Certification Record (MCR) as required after production work.
- Must be able to obtain a U.S. DOD Secret Security Clearance.
- Must be a U.S. citizen who is not a dual citizen of any other country.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Comply with “Supervisors Standards”, the production assignments, and guide personnel in the performance of their duties.
- Comply with safety procedures and regulations as required to ensure the safety of your production personnel. Maintain adherence to good housekeeping practices and safety guidelines following OII-MSD safety policies.
- Conduct performance evaluations of assigned personnel. Working with HR and the Resource Dept., take proper and judicious disciplinary measures and handle grievances when required.
- Coordinate the deployment of trades personnel to forward work sites. Ensure personnel are properly prepared (e.g., required safety equipment, manuals, drawings, material, tools, QA paperwork, etc.).
- Ensure all equipment issued to production personnel is safe and properly maintained. Ensure the pack-out list is issued to the tool room for away work sites. Ensure personnel returning from forward work sites return tools to the tool room, and any broken tools are reported to the Tool Room Attendant.
- Ensure economy and accountability in the expenditure of man-hours and material.
- Ensure pre and post job briefs are held to discuss items of concern. Ensure all departments are invited and direct any department to attend if issues affect them.
- Ensure required production documentation is completed and filed properly (e.g., Time Sheets, Travel Claims, QA Inspection Documentation (OQE), Material Purchase Order Requests, etc.).
- Ensure that the Trade employees assigned receive any material that was not shipped with the tool and equipment. Receive completed JML from purchasing after completion to ensure that any late material will not affect work completion schedules.
- Interface with customers to ensure complete satisfaction.
- Participate at the assigned level with Fact Finding Critiques when required to identify unsatisfactory work processes.
- Provide production status for all assignments to the PM/APM for discussion at the weekly meetings (e.g., Scheduling and Management).
- Provide technical advice and interpretation of drawings, schematics, MIL-STDs, SUBSAFE requirements, production processes, etc., to production personnel.
- Recommend or make improvements in equipment or production methods.
- Review OII work packages (REC, CWP, and FWP) before opening to ensure the full scope of work is identified for the assigned task. This shall include adding any special reference readings required for system reinstallation or certification.
- Review/audit OII work packages (REC, CWP, and FWP) after work to ensure all requirements/OQE are completed. Sign the Re-Entry Control REC and Maintenance
- Schedule, prioritize, and control production within your production tasks/jobs to ensure that production deadlines are met and manpower is optimized. Coordinate the production schedule with the work scheduler and other department supervisors
- Supervisory responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Strong analytical and personnel management skills required.
- Knowledge of the naval ship’s systems, repair organization, and procedures.
- Must have the ability to communicate and interface effectively with personnel within and outside the organization.
Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases
- Frequent travel and overtime may be required.
- Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment
- Includes exposure to contaminants
- Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable
- Job tasks are performed in close physical proximity to other people
