Job Profile

The company is searching for a Production Welder who will work in production stations in support of the manufacture of CAT’s paving equipment product line from end to end.

This position requires the ability to complete and pass an American Weld Society (AWS) certification.

The Welders will read fabrication blueprint/engineering drawings to determine the next course of work.

Educational Qualification

  • The applicants may be required a High School Diploma
  • Technical Degree in Welding

Work Experience

  • The candidates should have welding experience or be in the process of completing/have completed certified trade school.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Electronically and manually maintain documentation for labor hour records, process work orders, and production documentation.
  • Interpret metric drawings that use Geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T) to set up fixtures, tack, and weld components in horizontal and flat positions using welding gun, cutting torches, carbon arc, and other fabrication tools (i.e. grinder, chisel, tip cleaner). Includes use of grinding, flame-cutting equipment.
  • May have responsibility for the operation of robots including robot area safety and robotic checks (torch, straightness, harness inspection, etc.).
  • Prioritize work to meet production schedules.
  • Responsible for putting safety first with a goal to prevent all injuries, occupational illnesses, and safety incidents.
  • Support the movement of materials for Fabrication and Paint areas.
  • Take the initiative to identify, document, communicate, and correct problems related to fabrication, report discrepancies and recommend solutions.
  • Weld components per American Welding Society (AWS) standards and engineering/manufacturing prints and documentation.
  • Work and interact effectively in a team environment in alignment with our Code of Conduct and Values in Action.
  • Work with limited supervision
  • May perform other tasks as needed.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to complete and pass American Weld Society (AWS) certification
  • Ability to read fabrication blueprints, and engineering drawings
  • Ability to read standard work, prints, and write continuous improvement cards
  • Ability to utilize computers for production transactions
  • Experience with basic fabrication hand tools and equipment (i.e. grinder, chisel, tip cleaner)
  • Experience with cutting torches and/or carbon arc (gouging)
  • Heavy crane equipment experience
  • Understanding of geometric dimension and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Understanding of the metric measurement systems

Work Environment

  • Climb on equipment, machines, ladders, man lifts, and various step stools
  • Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices
  • Exposure to welding fumes
  • Kneel, squat, and crawl on knees
  • Lift up to 35 lbs. frequently
  • Noise levels of 85db or greater
  • Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and hoists
  • Repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling rotating
  • Required Personal Protective Equipment: hearing protection, safety glasses, steel-toed/metatarsal footgear, and protective welding clothing and equipment including jackets, chaps, helmets, grinding shields, etc.
  • Stand for a minimum of 8-hour shifts with minimal breaks
  • Use of fine motor skills
  • Use of hand tools including welder, grinder, air tools, pliers, reamers, etc.
  • Work at multiple heights
  • Work in awkward positions including forward-reach, lateral reach, squat, overhead reaching, twisting and forward head, and rotation of the neck.
  • Work in an environment with frequently changing temperatures
  • Work in tight spaces
