Job Profile
The company is recruiting a Quality Control/Quality Assurance Manager who will plan, coordinate, and assist the company’s quality assurance and quality control program to ensure smooth and continuous operation in a cost-effective manner and in compliance with established codes, standards, and customer specifications.
Manage quality control personnel and quality control processes.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree or Relevant from a college/university
- Welding Engineer Degree (preferred)
- CWI Certification
Work Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment
- 5 years of experience in a manufacturing quality assurance system (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Administer and implement the company quality assurance and quality control program manual that follows established codes, company standards, and customer specifications. Update as required.
- Administer and provide ongoing continuous improvement and implementation of the quality assurance and quality control program.
- Assist the various business units with business development efforts by participating in pre-qualifications and customer presentations by providing data and marketing material to support the company’s quality mission statement and program. Also have frequent contact with customers to build positive customer relationships.
- Collaborate with the various department heads to ensure the quality assurance and quality control program is comprehensive, incorporates best practices, and is consistent with the strategic plan of the company.
- Develop and manage AISC Program
- Ensure adherence to all ASME, AWS, Jurisdictional, and other plant specifications.
- Manage and maintain all appropriate quality control documentation, including WPSs, Welder Qualifications, supplier qualification records, MTRs, non-conformance reports, etc.
- Manage quality department, including dimensional, weld, NDT, and galvanizing inspectors.
- Plan for and provide training and personnel development opportunities for company employees to build a culture of quality throughout the company.
- Prepare and update quality assurance programs.
- Provide the necessary leadership and strategic planning to develop, implement and maintain a quality assurance and quality control program to support the company mission and ongoing continuous improvement effort to eliminate defective work and associated costs.
- Review contract documents and participate in the pre-planning of projects to provide input to the project team for the preparation of estimates, schedules, and project work plans.
- Work with shop personnel and the Quality department to document and improve all processes.
- Distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable quality of products from raw materials to the fabrication of pieces and parts, and through the final assembly and any required coating process.
- Coordinate and manage the process of flowing down expectations and requirements of the quality assurance and quality control program to respective subcontractors, suppliers, and other vendors who are contracted to perform work for the company. Evaluate subcontractors and follow up with Quality Pre-qualifications.
- Ensure all work plans incorporate the requirements of the contract drawings, specifications, and submittals and that all materials, equipment, and workmanship are inspected for compliance.
- Job Responsibilities and Roles may change dependent upon the workflow in which additional or other tasks may be assigned. Participate in pre-job and post-job meetings to communicate quality assurance and quality control expectations and lessons learned.
- Provide input and direction to resolve quality control problems (non-conformances) through proper inspections, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans.
- Report all unsafe conditions and products that do not meet quality standards to supervisors.
- Reports to President and Operations Manager.
- Track, Follow-up and Maintain costs associated with Warranty Issues and Rework. Produce reports and recommendations to Construction, Estimating, and Upper Management.
- Update the Project Manager on progress, issues, and problems related to the project and work with the Project Superintendent to coordinate all aspects of the project plan.
Authorities
- Implement the Quality Management System within the facility

- Perform final inspections on fabricated steel products.
- Reject or accept incoming materials
- Revise the Quality Assurance Manual for review by the President
- Separate non-conforming material
- Tag non-conforming material after inspection
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to work in a heavy steel fabrication shop environment
- Ability/competency reading blueprints
- Working knowledge of AISC (preferred)
- Strong organizational, managerial, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands
- Ability to view a computer monitor
- Frequent alpha/numeric keyboarding
- Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls
- Standing or walking 50%
Other Requirements
- Affiliation and certification with recognized QA/QC associations such as the American Society for Quality (ASQ) desirable.
