Job Profile
The company is seeking a Robotic Welding Technician who will conduct tests and evaluates data to assist personnel in the development and application of new or improved welding process or equipment, welding techniques, procedures, and practices.
Recommends new developments and applications.
Educational Qualification
- Applicants must possess either a valid Certificate of Qualification for a relevant skilled trade, or equivalent in post-secondary education and subsequent training.
Work Experience
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of working experience in a similar role, preferably within the automotive industry.
- Proficiency in FANUC robot programming.
- Pre-existing knowledge of MEDAR and Lincoln welders.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Administer and execute the preventative maintenance program.
- Develop and standardize resistance welding processes with various materials (HSLA steels, AHSS, HSS)
- Develop technical documentation system for processes.
- Get involved in troubleshooting resistance (spot and projection) welding issues and MIG welding.
- Implement systems to elongate electrode life (stepper programs, dressers, etc.)
- Respond to Corrective Action Reports (define root cause, implement corrections, and evaluate implementation)
- Safe and efficient repair and maintenance of Plant facilities and equipment as required including working with external contractors.
Other Duties-
- Improve, develop, and standardize destructive and non-destructive tests.
- Maintain a database with records of changes and welding schedules by machine/part.
- Routine maintenance of production equipment to ensure the most efficient flow of production with the least possible downtime.
- Standardize welding consumables where possible to achieve cost reduction.
- Support maintenance of spare parts list.
- Support welding development, new schedules, and corrections on improvements as well as robot programming and scheduled maintenance.
- Work with the production scheduler to schedule repairs ensuring the scheduler is aware when work assignments cannot be completed as planned.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Demonstrable and strong command of the English language in both written and spoken forms.
- Assertive and self-motivated, able to analyze and prioritize tasks.
- Creative problem-solving skills are essential.
- Intimate knowledge of equipment and processes relating to automated welding and robotics
- Open to new ideas, change, and continuous improvement with the capacity to transform ideas into actions.
- Possession of the tools required to successfully carry out the responsibilities of the job.
- Skilled in root cause analysis, troubleshooting techniques, and resolution of equipment failures.
- Understanding of communications methods and the appropriate use/frequency as circumstances warrant.
Physical Demands
- Regularly exposed to noise, temperature change, lubricants, and vibrations.
- Required to carry out routine, repetitive tasks such as reaching, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, lifting, packing, stacking, and bending.
- Wears all PPE including company-provided uniforms.
- Works a night shift with occasional overtime if Customer requirements.
- Works under the general supervision of Supervisor or Designee.
