Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Saw Operator who will work collaboratively with the Advanced Machining Center staff to successfully provide support in 5S initiatives, raw material storage, and work order management.

Educational Qualification

  • No education level is mentioned, yet a High School Diploma will be a plus

Work Experience

  • Possess a minimum of 1 year of experience in a machine shop (preferred)
  • Experience as a Shop Assistant in a job shop environment (preferred)
  • Experience using various types of pneumatic and electrical tools including air tools, grinders, band saws, sanders, buffers, lifting and moving devices (forklift, pallet jack), saws, and drills (preferred)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • 5S Support
  • Receive, organize, put away, and monitor raw materials
  • Organize cut and raw materials
  • Monitor drops (scrap materials) for use in other jobs
  • Perform daily cycle count of raw materials to ensure inventory control standards are met
  • General housekeeping as needed
  • Process paperwork when requested
  • Saw Support – Select the correct raw material and cut it to the correct size using the engineering drawing and best machine practices
  • Operate the band saw, table saw, and cold saw, along with buffers and grinders
  • Receive raw materials and enter inventory transactions
  • Daily removal of the garbage.
  • Clean work area and shop floor as needed but completely at the end of the shift.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

Technical Skills-

  • Able to adapt to a fast-paced work environment.
  • Able to perform basic math calculations and able to read a tape measure and a digital caliper.
  • Able to read, understand, and analyze engineering drawings (a plus)
  • Able to troubleshoot and problem-solve issues related to sawing, buffing, and grinding (a plus)
  • Knowledgeable about the basic parts of machine shop saws.

  • Communicates clearly and effectively to give and receive information through verbal or non-verbal to individuals and groups, internally and externally, to exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately.
  • Works collaboratively, as a team member, to suggest ideas and resolve issues in a positive manner.

Physical Requirements

  • Apply physical mobility (reaching, bending, climbing, crawling, kneeling, and arm and leg extension) to perform all assembly production activities.
  • Communicate effectively to give and receive detailed information through verbal communication in person or using the telephone; exchange ideas and convey detailed information accurately to co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and others inside and outside the company.
  • Possess extensive arm and hand mobility and strength to lift, hold, reach, carry, push, and pull parts. Also, able to move parts, tools, equipment, and materials in and out of vehicles.
  • Regularly lift 40 pounds; occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • See and judge distances and spatial relationships to successfully complete detailed activities to fine tolerances, including reading spreadsheets, drawings, and other documents.
  • Stand or walk for the majority of a workday to interact with other employees and perform job functions.

Work Environment

  • Perform on the production floor in the Advanced Machining Center with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals and plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises, and odors from production processes.

Tools/Equipment

  • Operate all hand tools and all pneumatic and air tools typically found in a machine shop.
  • Operate band, table, and cold saws with accuracy.
  • Use general office equipment such as computers, printers, telephones, copiers, e-mail, calculators, and other such equipment.
