Job Profile

The company is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer who will provide Materials Engineering support throughout the product design lifecycle, continuing through to in-service support.

Be responsible for supporting the design and manufacture of metallic and composite aerostructures, which incorporate mechanical, fuel, and electronic systems.

Look to build upon the department’s current expertise and experience in these areas whilst looking to expand the department’s capability to embrace new materials and processes such as (ALM) Additive Layer Manufacture and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation, and restriction of Chemicals) compliant materials and processes.

Be responsible for compiling and approving technical reports and providing evidence to support airworthiness documentation.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have at least HND, NVQ Level 4, or Associate’s Degree equivalent in materials science-related subject

Work Experience

  • Possess 5+ years working in engineering materials and processes-related role
  • Experience working within Aerospace Engineering Development or Maintenance business would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Proven ability to work as a material subject matter expert and communicate effectively with internal customers and external suppliers.
  • Technical expertise in at least 2 of the following areas-
    -Material selection for aerospace applications, conversant with aerospace material specifications
    -Material treatment and coatings for functional and environmental performance
    -Composite materials and adhesives
    -Manufacturing processes; Forging, welding, casting, ALM
    -Analysis of manufacturing or in-service issues such as corrosion, fatigue failures, fretting, etc.
    -Specification and review of material tests such as physical or environmental testing
    -Review of Hazardous materials and REACH assessments

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Application of advanced discipline domain knowledge to the design, development, and delivery of new products, processes, and technologies on time, within budget, and with the required quality
  • Application of, and compliance with, engineering processes and practices including the engineering framework, CDF, and regulatory requirements
  • Collaboration with discipline peers within the BU and across the Eaton/Cobham business to share and learn best practice
  • Collaboration with IPT members to address project requirements
  • Continued professional development of discipline competence and expertise to ensure own capability is leading edge.
  • Identification of opportunities for improvement in discipline processes, practices, and tools
  • Propose new technologies, materials, and processes to maintain and grow our technology differentiations
  • Providing advanced technical expertise to projects and product developments. Aligning technical solutions to organisational objectives to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Support the technical development of other members of the Engineering department through guidance, knowledge sharing, etc.
