Job Profile

The company is looking for a Senior Materials/Welding Engineer who will provide integrity engineering consultancy services to the Wood client base covering sub-sea facilities, pipelines, risers, topsides, and on and offshore plants.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Materials/Metallurgical or Welding Engineering from a recognized University or College.
  • Alternatively, tertiary education and suitable experience may be used to demonstrate equivalent standards.
  • Chartered or Professional Engineer status, preferably accredited by Engineering Council (preferred)

Work Experience

  • Experience in developing technical proposals and bids
  • Experience in managing and technically leading project work and managing client relations
  • Experience in managing, motivating, and mentoring professional engineering specialists
  • Formal training in Materials Engineering
  • Formal training in welding applications associated with the design and in-service materials.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provision of technical support (welding and related metallurgical support) during all phases of engineering projects, including the development, qualification, and review of welding procedures and inspection specifications, for the Client and Vendors.
  • Independent Advisor to Client
  • Input to Technical Bid Evaluations
  • Interface with design/discipline engineers, manufacturers, and fabrication contractors to ensure best practices and client specifications are applied to all stages of engineering projects.
  • Material Selection Assessments
  • Review and approval of MPS/MPQT from Vendors
  • Witnessing welding procedure and welder qualification testing and on-site manufacturing and fabrication activities.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve significant and unusual problems and generate substantial improvements to practices and procedures
  • Demonstrate a strong technical understanding of materials and welding engineering standard practices and communicate effectively with others on technical issues.
  • Experience with carbon steel, low alloy steels, duplex stainless steel, and Ni-base alloy welding, including writing and qualifying welding procedures, and review of subcontractor welding procedures, to client and international standards.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English, with good technical report writing skills
  • Possess working familiarity with and an ability to apply relevant codes and standards
  • Proven willingness to assume responsibility and seek out opportunities
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and committed to delivering first-class materials and welding engineering services.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills and an ability to relate to those in a wide range of organisation positions.
