Job Profile
The company is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who will be assigned to projects to develop an area from the conceptual phase to the EPC phase.
Plans and conducts independent work within M&T to support all business lines (Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, and Data Center), requiring judgment in evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of design on a project.
Knows applicable industry standards and codes, accepted design practices, and quality standards for a global business unit.
Education Level
- BS Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent from an accredited university or college (or international equivalent), with a minimum of 15 years of Wet systems experience
Work Experience
- Experience in writing equipment design specifications.
- Experience in mentoring junior mechanical engineers.
- Experience on Dry Systems (HVAC, Cleanrooms, etc.) on Semiconductor or Datacenter projects will be an added advantage.
- Experience with Liquid cooling systems on data center projects.
License/Certification
- A professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, from a recognized licensing board (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assumes a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks as directed.
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to the Supervisor or project management.
- Conducts reviews of vendor drawings, calculations, and other documentation.
- Coordinates and interfaces as directed with the day-to-day technical work of discipline engineers, specialists, and designers.
- Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors, and between other groups.
- Facilitates technical discussions with third parties (client, suppliers, regulators).
- Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project.
- Mentor designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.
- Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Plans, coordinates, or prepares equipment or work specifications, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and award recommendations.
- Plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates detailed phases of engineering work in the mechanical discipline in a project or staff group. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, or difficult coordination requirements.
- Prepares cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts, and change orders.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans following project scope, schedule, and budget, and manages implementation and performance accordingly.
- Represents the discipline on the project and, with the client as directed, resolves technical questions.
- Reviews and checks the work of subordinate engineers.
- Supports function initiatives of developing Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Computer Applications (BSAPs), and administrative practices.
- Supports the creation of a work environment, supported by leadership, which fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
- Works on conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
- Demonstrated ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks.
- Good working knowledge of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel codes, Section IV – Rules for Construction of Heating Boilers, Section VIII – Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels, ASME B31.3 Process Piping, API 617 Process Centrifugal Compressors, API 610 Centrifugal Pumps, API 660 Shell & Tube Heat Exchangers, API 661 Air Cooled Heat Exchangers, API 650 Storage Tanks, AWWA Water Tanks and NFPA.
- In depth knowledge of equipment packages such as Chilled water systems comprising chillers with VFD, chilled water pumps, chilled water expansion tanks; Water treatment packages; Condenser/Cooling Tower systems comprising condenser water pumps, sand filter skids and filter pumps; Heating water systems comprising hot water boiler and pumps; and other types of skid mounted pump and tank packages.
- Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
- Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for the preparation of analyses and the development of project deliverables within the discipline.
- Proficient knowledge of the application of Engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
- Skilled in oral and written communication. Able to work in project groups with shared work teams globally, to progress project designs.
- Thorough knowledge of discipline engineering techniques, the design of engineered systems, and engineering and design calculations.
- Thorough understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects, including construction practices and the economics involved.
- Understanding of engineering planning and control methods.
Required Qualifications
- Communication, development, engagement, safety, self-discipline, teamwork, values, and covenants.
- Experience in coordinating with global execution teams and offices.
- Experience in supporting project reviews and closure of associated actions: PFDs, P&IDs, HAZiDs, JHAs, ENVIDs, HAZOPs, and 3D model reviews.
- Experience with field installation/commissioning activities for Wet systems.
- Participated and contributed to code/standards committees (ASME, API, etc.).
- Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, Electric Vehicle, Battery, or Data Center.
- Prior work experience and responsibility for the supervision of a medium or major-sized project.
