Job Profile
The company is hiring a Senior Metallurgist who will be responsible for all aspects of materials involving the use and treatment of manufactured or purchased parts. This includes welding, coatings (i.e. ceramics, nitride, paint), and heat treatment processes. Experience of materials will not be limited to metals but also include materials of any kind as required for the design and manufacturing processes.
Education Level
- Requires a 4-year college degree in an applicable field and 5 years of related experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
- Practical knowledge of Military certifications and audits (preferred)
Work Experience
- Minimum of 5+ years of leading cross-functional teams on complex material technology and associated technology projects.
- Proven experience in manufacturing and machining processes
- Proven management experience in a global manufacturing company
- Demonstrate experience managing material technology projects including teams with engineering and production located across multiple global sites
- Background in Welding, Casting and Heat Treatment processes and corrosion prevention (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Responsible for the initiation, planning, monitoring, reporting, and closure of large material development and new/emerging associated technology projects.
- Closely coordinate with a cross-functional team of resources (Product Management, Strategic Marketing, Engineering Defense and Industrial, Operations, Supply Chain, etc.) for execution on time.
- Be expected to leverage their materials and associated technologies expertise to drive superior execution and contribute to strategy development around enhancing capabilities.
Principal Activities
- Act as a technical liaison between CIRCOR and materials suppliers.
- Develop and execute technical material projects of varying complexity based on commercial needs and proposed technical solution
- Investigate and match new technologies to product development needs to support l business growth in all served end markets.
- Maintain library of material and process specifications.
- Partner with Defense and Industrial leadership teams to develop advanced material capabilities and technologies strategy and drive execution based on best practices.
- Provide independent technical leadership in materials and associated existing and new technologies across manufacturing sites and all product platforms.
- Provide technical leadership to establish partnerships with external technical communities including universities, technical consultants, and research companies.
- Serve as Materials Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Defense and Industrial Group including all pumps
- Successfully identify and mitigate cost and technical risks involving material recommendations, developments, and substitutions.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Demonstrate abilities to perform in a metric-driven environment
- Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral reporting to middle and senior management levels
- Experience with lean principles or business-system culture
- Have exceptional cross-functional accountability with a proven track record as a change agent
- Knowledge of fluid handling equipment (pumps, compressors, valves, controls) preferred
- Must be a strong influencer, and able to make data-driven decisions
- Must have a valid passport; travel both international and domestic, up to 10%
- Strong manufacturing background with companies that produce metal products
