Job Profile
The company (TrinityRail Maintenance Services) is searching for a Senior NDT Technician who will non-destructively test preventive maintenance, structural, and mechanical repairs.
Follow appropriate procedures and diagnostic inspection for determining and approving work orders.
Educational Qualification
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Work Experience
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
- Previous experience in quality control/assurance in a manufacturing environment is preferred
- Previous railroad repair experience is preferred but not required
- Ability to obtain NDT Level II certifications in accordance with TrinityRail’s written practice
- Current Ultrasonic Testing Level II Certification and any NDT certifications as follows are a plus – Liquid Penetrant Test Method (PT), Remote Visual Test Method (RVI), Visual Test Method (VT)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Accurately measure to specifications
- Assist in the completion of all tasks to meet deadlines
- Enter tank cars via a manway opening approximately 20 inches in diameter
- Follow all safety rules and practices
- Inspect railcar qualification requirements, railcar repair, valve repair, and paint/coating tasks to ensure compliance with FRA, AAR, Company, and customer requirements, standards, and procedures.
- May be involved in safety committees or initiatives
- Perform complex troubleshooting and repair of NDT Equipment
- Utilize basic hand tools
- Work from blueprints or other specifications/schematics
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to communicate technical information
- Ability to instruct employees on proper railcar maintenance activities using established NDT procedures and training materials
- Ability to perform on-the-job NDT training and provide guidance to trainees and NDT Level I personnel
- Basic mechanical aptitude to read drawings and ability to use railroad gauges, testing techniques, and test equipment
- Have a strong knowledge of UT Shear water inspection of welds to ASME and AWS CODE
- Knowledge and understanding of welding and welding inspection
- Knowledge of industry-specific tests and test equipment
- Technical knowledge and skills to be qualified to set up and standardize NDT equipment and to interpret and evaluate results concerning applicable codes, standards, and specifications
- Working knowledge of computers, operating systems, and Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, Excel).
- Ability to comprehend and quickly learn complex procedures, standards, and regulations
- Documented classroom training hours and experience hours for the NDT method employed
