Job Profile
The company (ThyssenKrupp Presta North America) is looking for a Senior Project Buyer who will manage and be responsible (Project & Investment budget) for customer (OEM) nominated projects in terms of all purchasing relevant topics from project nomination until EOP incl. Launch- and Change Management.
Develops supplier base according to Central-/Regional Purchasing guidelines, Supplier Quality, and project business goals.
Manages purchasing contracts for direct material and serves as the primary interface for Global Commodity Managers.
Work involves administrative operations where independent judgment is used, and decisions are made within general policies, procedures, or specifications.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Engineering or equivalent or Business Administration; or 4 to 10 years of related technical experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Experience
- 5 to 10 years of experience in the automotive industry (OEM or Tier1/2)
- Familiar with customer requirements regarding safety-critical products (ASILD) and process-/manufacturing requirements.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Checks documents for procurement conference and provides a recommendation aligned cross/functional to the Top Management PSM
- Compliance with procurement directives (CD’s)
- Coordination of cross-functional collaboration to ensure that the requirements of internal customers reflect current market offering/support standardization and are in line with pursued Global Commodity strategies.
- Define Sourcing Strategy and Game Theory based Awarding Concepts.
- Demonstrates and initiates value analysis potential already in the development phase for optimization of customer product costs.
- Ensures/supports the entire procurement process (e.g. BK, Sourcing Status, PLM, COP, series and benchmark, E-auctions)
- Ensures automotive-friendly processing of awarding contracts considering the country-specific circumstances with the support of the judiciary and, if necessary, the local purchasing organization
- Ensures competence and qualification of the suppliers in cooperation with the designated departments for new project awarding
- Ensures Project Procurement as a proactive driver of the cross-functional departments (e.g. Sales, CBU, SQM, Engineering, Production Manufacturing) from the acquisition phase until customer project EOP.
- If and when required, support Global Commodity Managers in the development and implementation of new Group-wide strategies and improvement measures already in the development phase of new projects with the relevant suppliers.
- Initiation of procurement transactions; conducting analyses that may require a profound technical understanding of specific sourcing categories (ASILD).
- Market observation and benchmarking, early detection of trends, and action fields
- Must be able to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Preparing and conducting/leading (contract) final negotiations for major commodities, e.g. Electron-mechanics or Stampings for new project awarding.
- Responsible for purchasing assigned customer projects or platforms. Must meet targets of pricing, timing, quality, and parts country of origin as defined by the Customer Business Unit and Central Purchasing Strategy meeting.
- Searching for, developing, and managing strategically relevant suppliers; building up strategic supplier partnerships for new project awarding to increase competition.
- Sparring partner for sales by providing profound market information (Price estimations, raw material prices, trends, analyses, etc.)
- Supporting Procurement Performance Management by documenting negotiation results and by duly and expeditiously entering all required data in the relevant systems (e.g. prices, savings).
- Supports Global Commodity in major supplier claim negotiations with profound negotiation skills and high technical produce and process/manufacturing knowledge
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Specialized Procurement knowledge on major commodities, e.g. Stamping & Welding, Motors, or Electro-mechanics is a must requirement.
- The ability to train and transfer knowledge cross-functionally is an added plus.
- High technical knowledge and ability to interface with both internal and external engineering teams.
Procurement Skills
- Demonstrated strong negotiation skills required (Expert). Skills regarding the definition and execution of awarding strategies and concepts (based on Game Theory) are an added plus. Tk PSM (Procurement and Supply Management) processes, requirements, and tools such as TK-specific contracts, e-auctions, N5, Purchasing Council, SAP, PLM, Trufusion, Pronet, etc. are mandatory.
