Job Profile

The company is looking for a Senior Special Inspector (Inspector III) who will lead inspection activities on large or complex projects.

Oversee technical compliance, mentor junior inspectors, and serve as technical liaisons between field operations and project management teams.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; welding certificate or related vocational training.

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of progressive inspection or materials testing experience.
  • Proven experience in client communication, engagement, and presentation to others.

License/Certification

  • Advanced industry certifications (required or preferred) (e.g., ACI, ICC, AWS CWI).

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between field operations and project managers or engineers regarding technical issues.
  • Conduct complex inspections requiring specialized certifications (e.g., structural steel, welding, masonry, or soil compaction).
  • Identify and troubleshoot potential project risks or compliance issues, escalating when necessary.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts and ensure documentation meets both company and client requirements.
  • Operate company vehicles and ensure timely documentation of maintenance needs
  • Prepare and review detailed inspection reports and ensure proper data entry into project tracking systems.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to junior inspectors and new hires.
  • Stay abreast of industry regulations and best practices, maintaining advanced certifications.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Expert knowledge in interpreting complex blueprints, codes, and standards.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Work Environment

  • Days and hours for this position are typically Monday-Friday.
  • Exposure to environmental elements, including dirt, dust, sun, heat, humidity, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Moderate to loud noise levels, common in active construction and industrial environments.
  • Sites that may not be accessible by vehicle, requiring travel on foot through wetlands, swamps, grasslands, fields, and other uneven or rugged terrain with natural and man-made obstacles such as sand, brush, and debris.
  • Some weekends, overtime work or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • This position primarily works in an outdoor work environment, regularly exposed to varying field conditions, including:
  • May be required to drive hundreds of miles per day within the Mid-Atlantic region.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, pull, kneel, climb, balance, lift, carry, and push as required for fieldwork and inspections.
  • Ability to lift or carry 35 to 75 lbs. up to 75 feet, involving regular repetitive motion.
  • Ability to speak and hear effectively to communicate in noisy environments and with project teams.
  • Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate equipment for extended periods.
  • Ability to use your senses to see (including close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth vision, and ability to focus), smell, hear, touch (use hands to reach, climb or balance, crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel, and sit).
  • Frequent use of hands and arms for typing, handling tools, and operating equipment.
