Job Profile

The company is recruiting a Senior Staff Welding Engineer to join its team.

Education Level

  • BS Degree or Higher in welding engineering, welding engineering technology, or related field.

Work Experience

  • Experience with hands-on fabrication and manufacturing of welded assemblies
  • Demonstrated experience working with structured welding codes.
  • Experience writing test plans, test procedures, and inspection criteria.
  • Experience with welding processes including, but not limited to, resistance, electron beam, laser beam, plasma arc, resistance, friction stir, GTAW, and GMAW
  • Experience with tooling design experience for welded assemblies to reduce weldment distortion and improve producibility.
  • Experience working with the welding of aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, nickel alloys, and high-strength steels.
  • Be willing to travel as required, domestic and international
  • Experience with industry standards related to welding and welding qualification (i.e. AWS D17.1, D1.2, D1.1)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare statements of work (SOW) and coordinate with external vendors, such as weld integrators, to establish new capabilities or expand capacity.
  • Represent the organization in providing solutions to technical issues associated with specific projects.
  • Review Design drawings and associated technical documentation for correct weld symbol and welding process, Work Instructions/procedures, and Code application requirements.
  • Review engineering designs for welding requirements and provide feedback on design.
  • Review welding processes, documentation, and procedures and provide feedback.
  • Set up welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results.
  • Support design, manufacturing, and materials engineering with root cause analysis.
  • Support internal and external investigations for welding-related issues to increase productivity.
  • Support on-site audits at suppliers to control weld quality on hardware as needed.
  • Support on-site process development and improvement initiatives to resolve complex fabrication issues
  • Work closely with design, tooling, automation, and development engineers to improve welded designs for manufacturing.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
  • Master’s degree in Welding Engineering
  • Experience with root Cause Analysis and corrective actions including, but not limited to, optical and SEM fractography/metallography, hardness, chemical analysis, and mechanical testing
