Job Profile
The company is searching for a Service Mechanic who will be responsible for diagnosing problems with the structure and functioning of liquid bulk tanks, chassis, and fluid delivery systems; repairing and replacing necessary parts as indicated by diagnoses; and installing additional components to existing equipment.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Work Experience
- 1 year of experience building or repairing diesel, gas, or hydraulic equipment utilizing hand, electric, and pneumatic tools
Duties/Responsibilities
- Diagnose structural and operational problems with liquid bulk tanks, chassis, and fluid delivery systems to identify necessary repairs
- Install additional parts to existing units to upgrade or enhance functioning or efficiency
- Perform tests required by the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) on petroleum tanks and chassis
- Read job orders to determine work to be performed per customer request or Express Repair Service Manager’s direction
- Repair malfunctioning parts, which includes welding and fabricating components and sub-components
- Replace failing parts to restore proper functioning of equipment
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to arrange things or actions in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, policies, and regulations such as those found in work orders, work process protocols, and safety manuals
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong with a tank/chassis unit or component, or a tool utilized in performing work
- Analytical thinking
- Attention to detail
- Familiarity with safety standards common to motor vehicle repair work environments
- Skill to determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
- Skill to properly operate all tools used in the performance of essential job functions, such as hand/power tools and metal brakes/band saws, with accuracy.
- Skill to repair machines or systems using the needed tools
- Time management skills
- Troubleshooting skills to determine the cause of operating errors and decide what to do about them
- Working knowledge of arithmetic and its application
- Working knowledge of the proper use, maintenance, and repair of tools used on the job, including hand, electric, pneumatic, gas-welding/cutting tools
Equipment Used
- Hand, power, and stationary tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, electric drills, pneumatic ratchets, welding/cutting torches, metal brakes, and metal-cutting band saws
- Required to provide their work tools.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to physically perform heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
- Visual requirements include clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision
- Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions
