Job Profile

The company is hiring a Sheet Metal Mechanic who will support the production process of goods through maintaining and servicing equipment, supporting process installation, and supporting process replacement while working well with other skilled trades under the direction of the Maintenance group and the Engineering group.

Education Level

  • High School education program or equivalent state certification

Work Experience

  • Successful Journeyman Sheet Metal Apprenticeship program or > 8000 hours documented in the Sheet Metal trade.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Advise maintenance management on recurrent problems.
  • Assist in planning work for equipment outages.
  • Assist Pipefitters with Aireys.
  • Clean and lubricate Sheet Metal shop components to ensure fluid operation.
  • Create, maintain, and adjust preventative maintenance routines.
  • Design/Engineering Support – Provide the highest level of support possible to engineering and design resources.
  • Develop positive and productive relationships with all employees.
  • Discuss the scope of work with other trades to identify appropriate roles.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility.
  • Enter work orders for identified repairs.
  • Equipment Maintenance – Provide the highest level of support possible to production facilities with the intent of achieving superior equipment effectiveness as related to process and process support equipment.
  • Identify trouble areas.
  • Implement and document all necessary audits and planned preventive maintenance.
  • Initiate start-up.
  • Observe that the Company established sanitary and safety rules at all times.
  • Observe the line in operation.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) meetings, as required.
  • Perform all necessary daily inspections of equipment (i.e., safety, etc.).
  • Perform rigging and installation of trade-related equipment and assist all trades.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Provide training to others within the Sheet Metal classification.
  • Repair normal equipment breakdowns; i.e., repair/replace guards, diverters, shoots, doors, etc.
  • Repair, adjust, and maintain equipment (such as guarding pneumatic transfer devices and diverters) that transfers products.
  • Review approved work orders entered into the CMMS.
  • Set up equipment to accommodate various products, package dimensions, production volumes, and fabricate changes as needed.
  • Support the design of equipment in the Sheet Metal Trade.
  • Trouble shoot equipment failures as required.
  • Work with other trades to develop, maintain, and adapt maintenance plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Solid knowledge and proficiency in mathematical functions used in the trade.
  • Knowledge of appropriate application and utilization of personal protective equipment specific to the trade.
  • Knowledge of appropriate application, utilization, and care of equipment or tools used in the trade.
  • Knowledge of the production process while performing all duties in compliance with GMP process, plant safety rules, sanitation rules, and working rules.
  • Strong knowledge of current technology, and a desire to expand upon that knowledge as related to mechanical trades.
  • Use interpersonal skills to interact and work with others across the organization and in cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to participate in trade-related training.
  • Must be able to pass the relevant/required written exam and hands-on training exam related to the Sheet Metal trade.
  • Understanding of process and packaging, and its appropriate application.
  • Understanding of Computer Systems operating on a Windows platform.
  • Read drawings, blueprints, and schematics.

  • Able to safely climb stairs, scaffolds, and ladder steps
  • Able to safely crawl over or under equipment
  • Able to safely lift up to 50 pounds while maintaining balance
  • Able to safely utilize proper fall protection equipment
  • Able to safely work from high surfaces
