Job Profile

The company is seeking a Shipboard AIT Structural Supervisor who will support the BB3 Program Management Team by providing management of a structural labor force to achieve structural production goals as well as physically perform welding efforts to support surge conditions if/as they arise.

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree from a college/university (years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree)

Work Experience

  • Possess 2 years of team lead experience (structural team lead experience is highly preferred)
  • 5-7 years of experience. Surface shipboard installation welding experience in the following is highly preferred (FCAWW, SMAW including Stainless, GMAW including AL, GTAW including AL/STL, Plasma cutting, and Oxy Acetylene)

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ensure strict compliance with shipboard drawings, technical guidance, and QA inspection of installed systems.
  • Identify welding gear requirements to include welding consumables for multiple tasks.
  • Implement shipyard operating and safety rules.
  • Knowledge and understanding of WAF/Tag-Out guidelines, hot work requirements, and professional standards for structural component installation.
  • Lead the teams of structural trades to include Mechanics, Welders, Shipfitters, Pipefitters, Subcontractors, and temp labor.
  • Lead the teams tasked with removing and installing maritime equipment and structural components.
  • Maintain inventory and accountability of installation materials, tools, and test equipment as directed.
  • Maintain various welding qualifications for surge requirements as necessary. Uses a variety of arc, brazer, and gas welding equipment.
  • Make recommendations for Conditions Found Reports (CFRs) and Liaison Action Reports (LARs).
  • Provide daily leadership and supervision of structural personnel for removal, fabrication, and installation of equipment and foundations in support of ship maritime systems installations.
  • Read and interpret Shipboard Installation Drawings (SIDs).
  • Reports to Project Specialist or Project/Program Manager.
  • Submit daily muster reports and enforce timesheet policy.
  • Supervise the documentation and upkeep of Quality Assurance (QA) workbooks.
  • Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable materials by applying appropriate welding techniques.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must be able to effectively multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced dynamic production environment
  • Must be familiar with NAVSEA Standard Items
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Office to develop reports and update schedules
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance (having an active Secret clearance is preferred). This position supports a U.S. Government Contract whose terms require Serco to staff it only with US Citizens, be able to obtain gain access to shipyards and government installations (NAVSTA and DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening
