Job Profile
The company is looking for a Shop Supervisor who will safely supervise and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in the fabrication and assembly of structural, ornamental, or sheet metal products by performing the following duties.
Education Level
- High School Diploma, GED, or Vocational School
Work Experience
- 4-10 years of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Duties/Responsibilities
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Analyzes work orders and blueprints to determine information such as material to be used, type of operations, and sequence of operations required.
- Approve all shop employees’ time in Datamaxx
- Assume the duties of the Shop Manager in their absences.
- Communicates regularly with the Shop Manager
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Ensures Shop measurable are met
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Examines defective machinery to determine the cause of malfunction and reports the need for machine repairs.
- Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Inspects work in progress and finished products.
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations with safety being a number one priority
- Maintains time and production records.
- Must be familiar with the basic machine functions to perform the tasks stated above.
- Must be willing to receive and accept frequent supervision and assistance about weld setups/changeovers.
- Performs activities of workers supervised.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- May perform other duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Basic shop math, blueprint reading, reading, writing, and interpreting English, basic mechanical skills, effectively utilizing lifting devices, ability to interpret shop paperwork and work instructions, and ability to verify logs and procedures for accuracy.
- Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Must be able to fabricate and weld structural steel.
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug test.
- Skills Desired: strong attention to detail, ability to multitask, and good communication skills.
Working Conditions
- Frequently exposed fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration.
- Occasionally exposed to a variety of conditions within a manufacturing environment.
