Job Profile
The company is looking for a Shop Supervisor to join its team.
Education Level
- Diploma and advanced technical training or equivalent experience in the field of turbomachinery or Manufacturing.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of work experience in heavy equipment/part manufacturing or repair environment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Actively participates and takes a leadership role in health, safety, environment, and quality initiatives.
- Administers a program of good housekeeping in all areas of responsibility, resolves safety issues, and fosters a work-safe environment.
- Administers personnel functions in the department including hiring, training, discipline, and discharge.
- Advises engineering of any customer product non-conformances detected in the manufacturing process.
- Assigns the scheduled work and activity daily to qualified and capable personnel.
- Assists with production scheduling, participates in daily/weekly production meetings when required, and recommends strategies to correct deviations from schedule.
- Assists with safety and environment audits, customer inspection visits, and training activities.
- Assures materials, tooling, and supplies for the job are available to the assigned personnel.
- Assures that work is performed following the specifications and procedures defined in Elliott’s Quality Manual.
- Assures, that provided work instructions are complete and understood.
- Communicates effectively to schedule work, shipping, and material handling with other departments and shifts.
- Conduct hiring, training and development, discipline, discharge, and performance appraisal of personnel.
- Create monitoring procedures to control scrap and rework costs. Manage coordinated efforts to eliminate the root cause of the quality problem and employee recommendations.
- Devise motivational and developmental procedures for all subordinates to perform their assigned duties to the best of their abilities in a manner consistent with company goals.
- Establishes and maintains discipline, and effective and productive work habits in the department.
- Executes the scheduled shop workload as controlled by customer contract requirements.
- Identify shop training needs and establish the annual training & development program.
- Implements, supervises, and holds responsibility for good housekeeping activities, safe work practices, and effective and efficient operation using established policies and procedures.
- Initiate methods to control efficiency levels of machining operations. Take necessary action to ensure that products are produced at the lowest possible cost and in the shortest lead-time with the highest quality.
- Initiate methods to monitor and control product costs of critical path parts.
- Maintains a high degree of visibility throughout the day.
- Maintains a high standard of personal conduct and morale in the department.
- Orders tools and supplies required for specific jobs.
- Overall administration of the shop floor for day-to-day functions.
- Participates in both formal and informal audits of work practices, Quality, Statutory, HSE, Expenses and Operating efficiencies. Takes corrective actions as required.
- Performs additional activities as assigned by management.
- Promotes and adheres to company policies.
- Provides consultation and assists in resolving unforeseen problems during manufacturing
- Reviews work assignments for completion and approves completed assignments.
- Supports satisfactory work progress by addressing employee technical issues and information requests promptly as well as monitoring all activity throughout the department.
- Supports TPM across the Shop floor to manage the targeted up-time of machines.
Job Purposes-
- Enforces compliance with plant rules on the shop floor, and administers the labor contract with consistency, tact, and fairness.
- Ensures that the correct job-related information is accessible and facilitates the necessary resources to complete the required tasks.
- Execute the daily work schedule with the proper systems and priority for effective and timely operations in the shop.
- Monitors non-conformance (scrap/rework/warranty) and provides technical expertise to ensure quality/safety on all projects.
- Plan, supervise, and control the activities of direct and indirect hourly employees for efficient, safe, and profitable operation under the direction of the area manager.
- Provide timely information to relevant personnel, and ensure the availability of necessary tooling and resources with calibration wherever necessary, to do the job.
- Supports the development and implementation of continuous improvement activities of operations including, but not limited to, establishing best practices, standard work instructions, safety culture and habits, and good housekeeping techniques.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Detailed working knowledge of shop practices, repair, safety, personnel, and administrative procedures.
- Excellent supervisory and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills are also required.
- Technical ability to make decisions and direct assigned personnel to perform required assignments.
- Technical skills must include specific knowledge of Conventional & CNC machining, CNC programming, assembly, manufacturing processes, and shop floor control – welding and heat treatment knowledge will be desirable.
