Job Profile

The company (Siemens Mobility) is looking for a Straightener I who will support a broad range of activities in a dynamic, high-energy production environment in the fabrication of carbon steel and stainless-steel car bodies for the best rail vehicles in the world.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Work Experience

  • 2 years of MIG or TIG welding experience, or completion of an accredited welding education program

License/Certification

  • AWS Certification for welding carbon steel using GMAW 3G vertical up and 4F overhead.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings to verify dimensions and tolerances.
  • Adhere to production schedules, quality requirements, and budgeted labor hours.
  • Adjust welded car body assemblies to meet dimension and tolerance specifications.
  • Complete work order documentation and accurately clock labor hours.
  • Follow all safety requirements and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Meet quality and workmanship standards.
  • Mentor junior straighteners and work closely with senior straighteners to ensure tasks are completed on time.
  • Repair fabrication errors following defined procedures.
  • Safely operate hand, power, and welding tools.
  • Straighten the outer sheathing distorted by welding using mechanical means or localized heat and vacuum plates.
  • Under limited supervision, you will prepare welded car body exterior surfaces for priming and preparation by removing dents and surface imperfections.
  • Use tools such as straight edges, tape measures, and templates to verify work.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Basic English skills, with the ability to read and understand written instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Proficiency in MIG welding, Oxy/Acetylene torches, or induction heating equipment.
  • Strong mechanical background.

Work Environment

  • Frequently required to climb stairs, steps, and ladders
  • Frequently required to work on elevated platforms.
  • Frequently walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally lift and move at most 40 pounds.
  • Perform work overhead.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
