Job Profile

The company is hiring a Terminal Operator who will load bulk cementitious products into trucks, unload cementitious products from hopper barges/vessels/railcars into silos, and bags of cement, and perform general and preventive maintenance on equipment while prioritizing safety.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (preferred)

Work Experience

  • Experience or willingness to work in an industrial setting
  • Maintenance, welding, electrical training, or certifications

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Ability to drive and operate various mobile equipment such as front-end loaders, skid steers, forklifts, bobcats, hi-reach, and other light industrial equipment required.
  • Always adhere to all CEMEX and O.S.H.A. rules and regulations.
  • Follow and promote all safety policies, including but not limited to risk assessments before starting tasks.
  • Inspect equipment assigned to him/her each shift in accordance with a preventive maintenance program.
  • Interact with team members of the terminal on a regular basis to gather or communicate information and proactively solve problems.
  • Interpret and understand readings on equipment instrumentation panels.
  • Lead, track, and execute preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance of the terminal.
  • Load bulk pneumatic trailers for our customers.
  • Load package cement into flatbeds (if applicable).
  • Maintain terminals, quality control program, and environmental program.
  • Operate and monitor all terminal equipment.
  • Operate unloading equipment to unload bulk cement from vessels, barges, railcars, or trucks into storage areas.
  • Participate in formal and on-the-job training programs to acquire/broaden both technical and non-technical job skills; participate in cross-training activities.
  • Perform only trained and authorized activities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns of equipment; perform and assist with major repairs.
  • Verify accuracy of paperwork for incoming/outgoing shipments.
  • Wear proper safety equipment (PPE) while on plant grounds.
  • Work includes manual labor with necessary tools as required or assigned.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to operate standard maintenance machines, equipment, and powered mechanic tools safely in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to read technical information contained in manuals, reports, and welding work-related instructions, including safety issues and matters.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office
  • Be able to read, write, and speak English
  • Bilingual (Spanish).
  • Electrical and mechanical knowledge to detect potential safety hazards and breakdown of machinery and equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Continuous exposure to extreme heat, extreme cold, extreme noise, and working outdoors
  • Must wear protective equipment while at the location

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work outside in all weather conditions and tolerate extreme temperatures.
  • Frequently required to: walk and climb, walk long distances, and perform clean-up of spilled materials.
  • Heavy Work-Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to perform all job functions which include, but may not be limited to, pushing, turning, or pulling of controls.
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors as well as function safely around heavy rolling equipment.
