Educational Qualification
- Applicants should have an Associate’s Degree in Tool & Die Making from a college/university or equivalent
Work Experience
- Possess work-related experience (preferred)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Layout, construct, alter and repair a variety of tools, dies, fixtures, gauges, machines, and equipment where design, samples, or instructions are available, but involving some development work as to mechanisms and details.
- Maintain necessary records. Move materials as necessary in the performance of duties. Detect and report improper operation, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to proper supervision. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations. Perform other duties as required or directed.
- Perform difficult and exacting machining operations requiring a wide range of set-ups and methods to maintain close tolerances; skilled bench work involving filing, scraping, lapping, grinding, fitting, finishing, assembly, and adjusting to ensure proper operation. Set up and make tool tryouts, diagnose and remedy operational, material, or dimensional problems. Familiarity with production welding operations preferred.
- Plan sequence of work from blueprints, sketches, sample parts, or related data. Recognize and report for correction drawing or blueprint errors that may prevent the proper function of the tool.
- Work involves a wide range of machine and bench operations requiring skill and a thorough knowledge of tool and die-making practices; making correct decisions as to fits, finishes, machining, and assembly sequences is essential in order to produce workable tools and maintain close tolerances. Must be familiar with operating CNC machining equipment including lathes, mills, or machining centers. Assist in the training of lesser-skilled toolmakers and trainees as assigned.
