Job Profile

The company is seeking a Tool Builder II who will maintain and assist in building tooling and fixtures, support capital and manufacturing projects in conformance with customer expectations.

Work independently, manage small projects, and meet deadlines.

Education Level

  • High School Diploma or GED (required)

Work Experience

  • 5 years of machine shop or related field working in a sheet metal manufacturing environment.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accountability: Accepts responsibility and accountability for both the strategic planning and the successful implementation of all projects/programs/duties as outlined in this job description. Advises the supervisor of concerns, problems, and progress of work on time. Demonstrates a sound balance between quality and quantity of work while maintaining a sense of urgency toward completion.  Deadlines are met.
  • Assist in the planning, layout, and build tooling and projects from prints or instructions.
  • Communication: Expresses thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing, using good grammar. Presents concise, well-organized reports. Listens to understand input, feedback, and concerns. Provides complete information in an open, honest, and straightforward manner. Responds promptly and positively to questions and requests.
  • Continual Improvement and Problem Resolution: Identifies and communicates suggestions for work improvements. Uses technical/analytical abilities to assure existing work practices are the most efficient and cost-effective possible. Performs root-cause analysis and implements viable, permanent solutions to problems. Works with both internal and external customers to develop solutions that meet company-wide needs and objectives. Applies a sense of urgency to resolve problems or create opportunities that will increase productivity and create value. Shares best practices with other employees across the business.
  • Ethics & Work Standards: Maintain the highest ethical and work standards, while promoting the same attributes in co-workers and others. Ensure that all business activities – with both internal and external customers – are performed with a professional demeanor and that all participants are held accountable to this high standard.
  • Observe and maintain all safety requirements.
  • Operate some machines required for projects and fixtures (to include but not limited to Mig welder, lathe, knee mill, CNC mill, surface grinder, press brake, saw, laser, and drill press).
  • Read micrometers, gauges, and other precision instruments.
  • Repair and maintain weld/CNC fixtures
  • Repair, sharpen, and maintain dies, punch units, and templates.
  • Support capital, manufacturing, and safety projects
  • Teamwork/Relationships: Works with other employees willingly and in a spirit of cooperation and teamwork. Supports cooperation. Demonstrates a commitment to the entire business and is supportive of all initiatives (company and departmental) to help grow Vehicle Service Group’s business in the U.S. and abroad. Cooperates fully with others to achieve organizational goals.  Is tactful, courteous, and considerate. Embraces a positive outlook. Is respected and trusted by others.

Other Functions-

  • Clean any work tables, machinery, or equipment each day as required.
  • Perform housekeeping duties to maintain equipment and work area in a clean condition and safe working order.
  • Adhere to and follow environmental policies and procedures.
  • P.M. of dies, punches, and templates

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  •  Works under limited supervision. Handles routine matters on own initiative. All questionable matters are referred to the supervisor.
  • This is a 1st shift position, but flexibility in schedule may be needed to support manufacturing, capital, and project needs.
