Job Profile

The company (Boeing Commercial Airplanes) is seeking a Tooling Welder who will perform certified/qualified welding and thermal cutting to fabricate, repair, rework, and modify jigs, fixtures, dies, tools, handling equipment, and other similar products. This includes requirements for multiple types of welding processes for all-position welding on structural tubing, plates, and shapes. Job duties include: Performing FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, and SAW per the applicable Boeing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).

Education Level

  • High School Graduate or GED (preferred)
  • Certified in welding

Work Experience

  • 3+ years of welding experience
  • Experience with power tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience welding Aluminum
  • Experience welding Steel
  • Experience with Carbon Arch Gouging
  • Experience with hand-held Plasma
  • Experience with hand-held Torch
  • Experience with MIG welding
  • Experience with TIG welding
  • WABO certified

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, communicate, and work with customers, suppliers, and associates regarding job tasks including shift-to-shift written/verbal tie-ins, documenting, and maintaining adequate records.
  • Ensure tools and parts meet engineering requirements, specifications, and tolerances for dimension, shape, contour, location, and coordination.
  • In preparation for or after welding, operate saws, disk grinders, drill presses, and other associated shop equipment to accomplish assigned work.
  • Make adjustments during the process of the weld to compensate for variations in thickness, mismatch, gap, equipment anomalies, assembly fit-up, etc.
  • Move, lift, or turn materials or weld structures as required, utilizing shoplifting equipment such as overhead cranes, electric stackers, etc. Maintain cleanliness of welding equipment and general weld area.
  • Obtain work assignments from various sources or other accepted shop procedures.
  • Perform brazing, oxy-fuel cutting, plasma arc cutting, carbon arc gouging, flame straightening, and flame bending.
  • Plan sequence of welding and material fit-up operations to allow maximum accessibility to the area welded last on a complete assembly.
  • Report discrepancies in design or fabrication and initiate corrections as required.
  • Request repairs when and as required to maintain welding equipment in optimum operating condition. Assist in the identification and documentation of best practices, process standardization, and improvement activities associated with structural welding.
  • When a WPS is not required, select electrodes, gas cups, filler metal, weld current, arc voltage travel speed, gas flow, wire size, and feed rate per the weld schedule or other furnished information.
  • Work in conformance with drawings, specifications, written or verbal instructions, trade practices, and applicable codes.
