The company is seeking a Vessel Welder I to join its team.
Education Level
- High School Diploma or GED
Work Experience
- 6 months to 1 year of welding experience in pressure vessel, successful completion of a technical welder training program or an equivalent combination of experience and education, preferred
Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist in diagnosing vessel, materials, machinery, equipment, or tool problems and resolve, them as necessary.
- Complete necessary documentation for welding procedure specifications, requirements, and results.
- Ensure that work, staging, and storage areas are safe and clean.
- Follow special handling, documentation, and traceability procedures for materials with Lot designations.
- Follow the 5S system.
- Monitor welding machine operation, performance, and accuracy.
- Perform preventive maintenance and calibration processes on specified machines, tools, and equipment, with assistance.
- Read production orders to verify quality standards for specifications, processes, and procedures.
- Set up and operate specified welding machines, tools, and equipment, with assistance from the Supervisor, Lead, or support personnel.
- Use overhead crane, rollers, hoist, or forklift, as necessary, to position or move product, as required.
- Verify finished product meets specifications.
- Verify that vessels, materials, parts, procedures, and processes conform to applicable work instructions.
- Follow directions and perform tasks as assigned by the Lead and Supervisors.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to pass prescribed welding procedure tests in accordance with ASME Section VIII.
- Ability to perform x-ray quality welds.
- Ability to read a standard tape measure.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as work instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of pneumatic hand tools, cutting torch, hoist, forklift, and overhead crane, is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of reading blueprints, specifically symbols used for welding instructions, is preferred.
- FCAW, MIG, and SMAW welding processes are required; SAW and TIG, are a plus.
- Forklift operation, the ability to pass an in-house certification, and a clean driving record, are a plus.
Physical Demands
- Bend, stoop, walk, kneel, crouch, carry and climb.
- Frequently, lift or move 1 to 20 pounds, and occasionally, up to 50 pounds.
