Job Profile
The company is searching for a Weld Engineer who will contribute by supporting multiple project teams in the area of Laser Welding technologies.
Be a member of a project team, providing technical expertise and guidance in product design and process development. Activities include the development of both weld and production processes, and procedures, for mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Support production through operator training, process issue resolution, and evaluation of existing operations for opportunities to improve efficiency, first-pass yield, and scrap rates.
Interact with customers, suppliers, and program teams to ensure products meet specified requirements.
Education Level
- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and minimum 4 years of prior relevant experience OR
- Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience
- Instead of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior related experience
Work Experience
- Minimum 4 years of experience in laser welding of Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Titanium
- Experience related to the fabrication or assembly of close tolerance mechanical, electronic, or electro-mechanical piece parts
Duties/Responsibilities
- Actively participate in Failure Review Board (FRB) investigations
- Analyze engineering design documents and develop the methods, processes, tools, jigs, and fixtures, required to fabricate the specified product
- Analyze manufacturing production problems and implement corrective actions involving designs, materials, and processes
- Conduct capacity analyses, capability studies, and gage repeatability and reproducibility studies
- Develop and prepare work instructions, control plans, Process Failure Mode Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), and process validation plans
- Incorporate new methods and processes to improve existing operations
- Interface with equipment vendors and specify equipment through writing Scope of Work documents
- Lead the set-up and validation of new welding equipment and production lines
- Manage capital requirements for laser welder equipment upgrades or replacement to ensure sustainability
- Perform metallurgical evaluations; Cutting/Sectioning and Evaluation
- Prepare reports and white papers summarizing information or trends related to manufacturing performance
- Prepare tooling cost and engineering labor estimates for proposal responses
- Proactively maintain industry awareness and opportunities for new weld technologies
- Provide strong mechanical and technical leadership in the laser welding technology field
- Provide technical expertise and support related to manufacturing
- Responsible for the implementation and development of laser-based processes and technology to meet the specified design requirements
- Review product designs for manufacturability and completeness
- Train production personnel in new or existing operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Welding Engineering
- 6+ years of industry experience in laser welding
- Experience in Ultrasonic welding and Resistance welding
- Experience in programming laser welding systems
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel)
- Demonstrated skills and experience in drawing practices, engineering analysis, DoD development programs, procurement, integration, assembly, and test of hardware
- Experience in the defense or aerospace industry
- Experience with ANSI J-STD-001, AS9100, and ANSI Y14.5
- Experience with Solid Edge and Minitab
- Experience with 6sig, 8D, Costpoint, TipQA
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Must be a United States Citizen
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level clearance
