Job Profile

The company is seeking a Weld Engineer – Manufacturing who will be responsible for planning and designing complex manufacturing processes in an industrial plant while improving production methods, determining manufacturing capacity, and setting up production schedules.

This position may provide support in the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation in support of manufacturing operations such as machining, metal forming, plastics processing, welding, brazing, assembly, and material handling.

Educational Qualification

  • The applicants should be a Graduate of a Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Welding Engineering program or have equivalent work experience

Work Experience

  • Possess 5+ years of experience in a welding environment, preferably multi-component weldments with multi-pass welds
  • Experienced weld fixture and tooling designer (minimum 5 years)
  • Robotic welding experience in a welding environment is an asset but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) or AWS (American Welding Society) standards is an asset

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Accountable for developing plant control philosophy creating Control Plans, PFMEAs, VSMs, work instructions, time studies, etc.
  • Accountable for the successful completion of assigned manufacturing engineering tasks, providing information throughout the development process.
  • Create plant layouts and develop processes to ensure current and future productivity targets are met
  • Design or procure jigs, fixtures, and tooling required for all products
  • Develop and support the welding process requirements for current and new Skyjack products
  • Develop innovative ideas and alternatives to be cost-competitive with production targets
  • Development of standard operating procedures (work instructions) for all processes
  • Identify areas where Fixturing/tooling are required and implement
  • Responsible for all jigs and fixtures and inspection tools to ensure parts are in compliance with specifications
  • Size and select equipment, materials, and process systems
  • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis on all jigs and fixtures to address production issues
  • Work with tooling suppliers to verify design and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Able to work independently, prioritize, and multi-task with accountability for decisions
  • Above average computer skills including all Windows applications, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks/ProE
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills
  • Good understanding of LEAN techniques, workflow, and cell layout
  • Must have good communication skills and be able to work closely and effectively with other departments and individuals within the organization
  • Self-motivated, organized, and have attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of weld sequencing, fit-up, and processes
