Job Profile

The company is looking for a Welder who will support the team in efforts of continuous improvement.

This position is under limited supervision and provides oversight and coordination of various quality support activities including the investigation, documentation, analysis, resolution of quality issues, and other duties as assigned.

The Welders will typically report to a Supervisor.

Educational Qualification

  • The applicants should have a Welding Trade Certificate/Diploma from a college/university.
  • They should have completed a recent High School Welding Program

Work Experience

  • The candidates must have at least 6 months of welding experience.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Follows and utilizes CPS principles of 5S, Continuous Improvement Idea Reporting, Waste Elimination, and Standard Work
  • Follows documented procedures standard work, routings, and blueprints to perform safe and defect-free operations to create and machine components
  • Inspects own work including quality checks utilizing weld and attribute gages and other measuring tools
  • Keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Operates robotic and manual MIG weld machines
  • Performs in the station, repair on defective welds utilizing carbon air arc process, grinders, etc. Clears common robotic welding system faults
  • Responsible for process and final inspections
  • Rotation to various positions within the Job Function area to perform related activities.
  • Use of lifting devices to move heavy components of weights of more than 35 lbs. to position heavy fabricated metal components in weld fixtures

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Caterpillar product knowledge
  • Completion of the Cat welding apprenticeship program
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Experience operating robotic welding systems
  • Experience with blueprint reading
  • Experience with manual MIG welding
  • MIG welding certification
  • Post-secondary education
  • Welding experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Work history that demonstrates consistency in employment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to perform repetitive operations
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods

Other Requirements

Successful candidates must be able to pass the following AWS D1.1 welder qualification during Cat provided weld training-

  • T-fillet break test in the 2F (horizontal fillet) position
  • Limited thickness groove test in the 1G (flat groove) position
