Work Experience

  • Experience in TIG or MIG welding on aluminum, steel, or stainless steel parts such as drawers and cabinets in accordance with supplied instructions

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs layouts, fit-ups, and all welding and related fabrication processes on tightly toleranced, complex aluminum, steel, and stainless drawers, cabinets, subassembly, precision guided systems and facilities projects
  • Cleans and prepares parts for welding by wire brushing, abrasive shot blast, and aqueous or solvent cleaning
  • Performs grinding, straightening, and metal finishing to meet final product finish requirements
  • Utilizes jigs, fixtures, table setups, clamps, and angle plates precisely as specified by work instructions or group leader/supervision to produce the correct shapes and dimensions
  • Sets up, qualifies and runs spot welding equipment in accordance with specified procedures
  • Interprets CAD data, prints, and sketches with regard to fabrication and can follow written or verbal instructions
  • Sets up and maintains welding equipment
  • Follows welding sequences precisely as specified by work instructions or group leader/supervision to minimize heat distortion and straightening requirements
  • May repair or rework parts to restore to required tolerances that have become distorted as a result of welding operations or other processes
  • Maintains workstation/cell in an organized manner and compliance with any applicable safety standards
  • Works in time-critical situations in a dynamic, team-oriented environment where programs, setups, and tooling are constantly changing and interacts effectively with associates and management as priorities shift
  • Receives and, when assigned, provides cross-training for other tasks related to department functions and procedures
  • Recommends and executes changes to achieve process improvements or cycle time reductions
  • Uses precision measuring tools, (i.e. vernier caliper, micrometers, various welding inspection tools)
  • Performs other job-related duties as required by management

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Application of metal flame spray to tight tolerances
  • Brazing experience
  • Flame/plasma cutting experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Quick learner
  • Vocational or trade school certification or equivalent experience
  • Wash, shot/abrasive blast, masks, and apply the metal flame spray to parts and welded structures per established manufacturing instructions
  • Ability to qualify and retain qualifications necessary for the welds being performed
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals such as solvents, acidic and alkaline solutions, and aqueous cleaners
  • Ability to work well and cross-shift with others on the same work
  • Can read and understand complex blueprints and sketches with respect to welding symbols and differentiation between thread sizes, pitch, metric, and standard threads
  • Must be able to support a flexible work schedule supporting overtime, off-Fridays, weekends, or alternate shifts to support product schedules as required
  • Proficiently uses various hand tools such as hammers, chisels, burr removal, squares, and straight edges and measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and scales

  • Lifting 50 pounds
  • Standing, sitting, bending, walking, 10+ hours per day
  • Personal protective equipment including Steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and wearing a respirator when required
  • Adheres to safety guidelines and the correct procedures for performing tasks to prevent personal injury or damage to product or equipment
  • And assemblies per established manufacturing instructions
  • Cleans, preps, metal finish, mask, apply localized plating, paint and unmask parts, weldments
  • Employs various hand tools such as hammers, chisels, squares, and straight edges
  • Wash, mask, shot/abrasive blast, and apply metal flame spray to parts and weldments per established manufacturing instructions
  • Works with others and cross-shifts with others on the same work
